Hey,

Just after a little advice and user experience before I pull the trigger.

I've kind of narrowed it down to the above three, though I am open to other suggestions, so what would you buy and why?

DXtory based on one reason if this reason dont matter then either OBS, Raptr, MSI AB...

DXtory is the only program that allows you to have audio split into separate streams. For example
Teamspeak, Mic and Game audio can all be on audio 1 audio 2 and audio 3

Put this into an editing software and now you can cut out unwanted Teamspeak audio while still keeping all game audio in place.
Other recording programs wont do this and they will mix teamspeak+game together a real pain to edit at times.

Raptr Quality is simply stunning for its performance hit! But only 1080p 60fps though.. Hoping newer GPUs can start pushing higher refresh rates.

@ Doofer : I've made numerous attempts to get OBS working properly, but I still can't get it to work.

@ Shanks : Yes, Dxtory does appeal to me, though the only thing that bugs me a little about it is the output file choice being AVI or raw. Now, having used Afterburner to make most of my videos, AVI is ideally something I would like to take a break from due to the file sizes. Also, although it doesn't happen often, I found that if my recording crashed when using Afterburner, the footage would always be lost, where as that happened less frequently with, for instance, Raptr.

With regards to Raptr, I find it either works well or it doesn't. Some games it just doesn't seem to play ball with. It's a shame, as recording in mp4 then rendering with.....say Windows Movie Maker + H.264 seems to work just fine.

@ DG : I understand Fraps creates huge file sizes, so I assume that it uses AVI once again? However, I also hear that the quality is good?

With Raptr since its 4.2 update its been so much better, am yet to have a game not record so far.

The great thing about DXtory is you can change the recording codec method. By default DXtory uses a very hard hitting method that gives probably the best IQ out there but file sizes can be something.

You can use a codec called lagarith lossless codec gives much better file sizes and less performance hit.
If you have MSI AB installed or Raptr then there codecs can also be used with DXtory.

It is the best out there but it just needs time and work to get it right for yourself.

I've tried them all and settled on Raptr. It has been flaky in the past but the newest update pretty much records any game. The below video was recorded at 20mbs. You can go up to 50Mb but the file size is bigger and I have slow upload speed.

EDIT: Previous favourite was Mirillis Action! but it has a huge flaw in that you cannot select the bit rate so in fast moving games the quality at the highest settings isn't great although the file size is pretty small

Check out 60 FPS 1080P at 20MBS

Hmmm...interesting. I'll see if I can get Dead Space 3 / Crysis 2 working better with it and see how I go. I assume I have the latest update (4.2), and that it updates automatically?

If nobody has heard about the feature that is used in Raptr is called AMD VCE which is kinda like how shadowplay works via recording with the gpu instead of going through the cpu and it can be used with most recording software which i use with afterburner and yes the recording is limited to 1080p which is a shame but not many people watch higher resolution then that on youtube anyway, if you want to try it out then grab it via the link https://github.com/jackun/openencodevfw

Does any of this software record specific parts of a windowed application?
I'd like to do some cad bench's but struggling to find something that works. I know fraps doesn't

Sorry version Version 4.4.2 (5/15/2015) is the latest. And yes it should auto update.

That's some nice, crisp footage, Shanks.

Is there a time limit for how long Raptr can record for? I just had a nice little session on Dead Space 3, but at around 28mins or so, it stopped. Probably something I haven't checked or done right. At least now, I have a video I can start editing (if that had been Afterburner, I might have ended up losing the footage).

@ Mr.Fantastic : Yes, I have seen that before on, I think, Mirillis.

Not that I can see.. I just finished recording 20 mins of gameplay..

Ahh, I think it must have split the session up into parts, judging by looking at the folder. That's okay, then. So far, so good. :)
