i have not done much pc gaming in the pst but upgraded my pc and intending to game more often, i have never really messed about with the game settings so much, so im hoping i can get some advice on what to set and what settings are most important.

Is setting the resolution to 1680 x 1050 (22" ws monitor) one of the most important things ?

Are anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering the 2 main setting that affect fps ie if i wanted to increase fps should i reduce these 2, is one more important that the other. What other settings affect fps?

just looking for an idea how to go about getting my game settings correct, what order do people set things and if getting a low fps what do you reduce to get better fps?

cheers :D

Always always always run in Native res if you can. Most TFTs don't scale well, it should always be the last resort when trying to get more fps.

AA makes a huge difference in fps too, great for Eye Candy, but by no means vital, if your playing a fast paced fps game you probably won't notice the lack of it. I know I don't.

AF doesn't have a huge hit with performance compared to AA. Most cards will be able to run 8x, or 16x without really loosing any performance. Helps make the textures look nice and crisp when at angles from the camera. Must have in fps games imo.

I tend to turn down after effects like post processing first, followed by decals, shadows, lighting and lastly texturing.

cheers for that, i was kinda wondering about having too much eye candy as playing cod4 you dont get much time to admire the fine details, i turned AA off and to 4x and i never noticed any difference as i was too busy having fun.

i shall experiment with turning the after effects off too, understanding what each one actually does is another matter

Sleepless : cheers for that link, great info there but his guide is a bit too indepth would take me a year to read all that. Just looking for tips on getting good settings.
