I've been playing DoTA2 as my main game on the PC for years, starting to think I need something a little different. I'm not up for another MOBA really as tried a few and none come close but as the wife is spending quite a few evenings doing shifts at the hospital I think I may have enough time for an MMO of some sort. Historically played EQ, DAoC, WoW, EQ2. So something of that ilk would be good although not too stuck on that. Needs to be reasonably accessible (although I'm still up for some grind) and active, I don't really like the heavily instanced ones.

My fallback game on the PC is PUBG, I really want a more modern shooter but one where it's not so hard to be competitive at my age. I'm not sure any of the other battle royales are for me but happy for large scale shooters or arena ones.

Have tried Lost Ark and to be honest the trial of the class I picked has pretty much put me off. It just seems like a button masher, not quite as relaxed as most MMO's, more like Diablo which although i did like it's not what i'm looking for.

Destiny 2 has a tonne of content to grind through. Weapons feel good and a few MP modes outside of the quest stuff. If you can convince a mate to start at the same time as you.

I tried that last year some time, i quite enjoyed it but I felt so late to the party that it was difficult to keep playing. Didn't have anyone to play with either.

Frostpunk is one of my fav games of recent years if you like strategy games, love the atmosphere and the style of it. Completing all the campaigns on survival mode was a good challenge too.

For a FPS I found insurgency Sandstorm great, co-op against bots, played a few hundred hours and I hate online shooters but PvE in this is great, some offline as well

Hell Let Loose?
That looks pretty decent actually, would fit the bill of my secondary game. Decent sized player base? Worth getting the DLC packs or just stick to the base game?

Edit
16.99 on CD keys for the base game so gone with that.

Just playing a bit of Hell Let Loose now, really enjoying it. Took me about 5 spawns to see anyone and 10 to shoot someone but ended up with 14 kill to 28 deaths in the game. I was a little surprised by lack of comms though, every guide I read said it was critical and I didn't have anyone talk in any of the squads I moved between.

I was in a similar boat to you, looking for pve rather than pvp as felt I was not being competitive as I got older. I had always dismissed it as I thought it was generally seen as crap since it went standalone and had bad reviews, but I been loving Dayz a lot! It's a cracking game imo. It actually has majority of good reviews now, so must have improved a lot.

I also played a lot of PUBG but found myself enjoying the earlier rounds where you first drop and have to survive and the fights were only if you went looking for them. It's similar in Dayz, there is pvp still, but you can avoid it and its much more focused on survival (i can go hours and hours without even seeing a soul even on a high pop server). When you feel like a fight, you can try track someone or go to a hot zone area. It's also quite exciting when you finally do come across people as you don't know if they're hostile or not. Have had some really funny situations :) Has a lot of other stuff going for it too, crafting, bases, etc etc.

Definitely not looking for PvE! Hell Let Loose definitely ticks all the boxes for what i was looking for than i can see so far. Just need a good MMO now as DoTA is not fun the majority of the time now.

Escape from Tarkov maybe - steep adjustment from typical shooters as very unforgiving but you can play as slow/steady or aggressive as you like. Can be played solo or with teammates - it's the game I naturally moved onto after thousands of hours on PUBG and approaching something like 2.5k hours on it now. I've not played a game that feels as rewarding or frustrating in equal measure. It has however ruined me for other shooters and everything pales in comparison sadly :(
