First I will explain my set up.

I have my consoles going into a AV receiver (5.1 sound system) and then from the receiver to my LED TV (LG 37/5300LE). My TV is fairly new so I think this maybe the reason for the problem I am getting.

I set up my Gamecube because I managed to get myself a copy of Zelda the Twilight Princess from ebay and its looks that bad on my TV I just cant play it! I dont know if anyone on here would be able to post a picture of there running gamecube just so I can make sure its not just me being so used to HD gfx and that Gamecube always looked that bad? From what I remember, the gamecube looked good! sharp?

I just need to try and establish if the problem is my TV settings or that Gamecube always did look naff. I play old classics on my PS3, games like "Streets of Rage" and they look sharper than the cube!!

Thanks

You're not going to be using a very good connection from the Gamecube. Best you can get IIRC is RGB Scart - at least that was the cable I used from my Gamecube. I use my Wii now as it outputs via Component @ 480p but even then it's not as sharp as it was on an SD TV. Definitely playable and some games look very nice still (like Mario Galaxy 2).

Im using the cables that came with the console, I just think it should be better.

If anyone could do a picture of what there cube looks like on there TV, it would be a big help :)

SCART looks utterly crap these days. When I play on my mate's XBox at his house, which is connected by SCART to an old SDTV, I can't believe how awful it looks compared to HDMI on an HDTV.

I know, it looks shocking. I cant even make out links face its just a blur!

Im sure this looked a lot better back in the day.....Resident evil remake, Metal Gear twin snakes, mario sunshine....my memory of these games are in good looking gfx not what im currently seeing :P

First of all you are using the worst cable possible (standard cable is composite, and gives horrible colour bleeding and bluryness).

You need to get yourself an RGB SCART cable for a crisper, clearer image.

Also you are playing it on a HDTV so the image is not only being stretched over a much bigger res, but also being stretched to 16:9 from 4:3 (assuming you've not changed that manually).

The Gamecube looks great on CRT's when running RGB SCART.

I've got mine hooked up to a 21" CRT in the spare room, and TP looks great on it :)

Thanks HeX, makes sense and I know that the image is being stretched but I have even put my picture in 4:3 and it looks plop.

I will get myself a nice sparkly lead for it, HeX....link me to the lead your using and I will buy it! :D

Composite output + LCD TV = Bad quality. Probably had a CRT back when you remember it looking good.

Only 2 options available: RGB Scart cable for the GC or use a Wii with component cable although i'm not 100% sure if it stays in 480p when doing GC games.

If you get an RGB cable make sure you get an offical Nintendo one (if thats still possible). A lot of the 3rd party ones were pretty much useless.

RGB SCART looks pretty good.

Just to clarify: If you're using a cable with red, white and yellow connectors, which plugs in to a SCART adaptor, that is *not* RGB SCART.

RGB should look excellent on a half decent LCD(make sure you use the RGB SCART socket, some TV's have 3 SCART sockets but only one of them are RGB).

If you console has a digital out socket(old gamecubes have them), buy yourself a component lead(Zelda PAL is not 480P, only the NTSC version is, but the picture will be cleaner and crisper)), problem is they cost £70!(mine did, it's the official one though).

Get Tales of Symphonia is my biggest tip to you, it is the best JRPG I've played on any generation console!

Thanks Dave, My cube does have the digital out socket and yes I would LOVE to get that lead but its not an option as its far to expensive!! I have just pulled the cube out and found that it is using the red/yellow/white lead so I guess the SCART lead would be a cheaper way to go to improve the dire look

SCART is a standard term for a connector type. Composite(the worst pic quality, can be plugged into a scart connector thus it becomes a SCART connection but the pic quality is still crap, it just allow you to plug composite signal into a SCART connector. RGB SCART leads are an all in one cable, molded. *when* you buy a RGB lead make sure it's from a reputable dealer or is the official one, a lot of crap ones knocking about which give you composite pic quality.

btw i've been thinking... if you just play PAL games(none of them were burnt as 480P) then a good quality RGB lead is all you'll ever need.

Going off what others are saying then its going to have to be the official gamecube one I buy.

Im surprised this never actually came with the console

Thanks, I have just bought it and I will let you know how it goes once I have received it.

That's fine I will probably be on-line tonight at some point (after united) I will accept it :)

Just so you know the gamecube component cable does not work. It was a feature removed from PAL consoles because Nintendo thought of europe as behind the times I guess. The NTSC version did however. RGB cable is your best bet but make sure it is a offical one as a lot of the third part stuff is crap. My daughter has my old gamecube in her bedroom with RGB on a 26" HDTV and the games look fine.
