Gamepad question ps2 and 360 ones.

Thinking about a wired gamepad for lazy play while in bed. Their is the 360 pad for £15 for windows at Game (out of stock tho atm but shouldnt be long till new stock i hope IF i want it) which seems a nice deal but seems a lot of money even tho its cheapest i seen through my searches. Is this still a decent pad, is their any issues anyone knows with win 7 64bit also any games it doesnt work with that should be.

Also thinking about a ps2 pad with an adapter for emulator play as well as normal pc gaming play for the proper signs on the buttons for when using emulator. Their is a cheap ps2 pad for 1.99 at Argos which my bro might get as i said get me one but i duno if he will today. So if i do get that or he has got it for me already which adaptor should i get, i want the cheapest adaptor but one that works as it should and isnt glitchy and of course works good with dual shock with the pad and is good on win 7 64bit.

Thought about it for the 3rd person games i seem to be playing now and then also driving games i guess as momo wheel is too much effort to setup imo. Also would be good for emulator games cos keyboard sucks imo cos too many keys for console games and then their is the camera controls which is hard to setup with kb and mouse.
 
Far too expensive imo just for a converter of sorts. I mean theres some on ebay for like a quid that looks like that. I know i asked for a certain type but i wouldnt mind knowing what the difference is between that and say this.

Plus i couldnt see on the amazon one that it supports win 7 64bit.

Edit - if you posted that link just to see if its what i was after in general and not a direct recommendation then sry i didnt see at first but yeah them things but far cheaper like 4-5 quid max delivered.

I've had nothing but joy from my wired xbox 360 pad using win 7 64 bit.

It works perfectly in all the games I expected it to: I use it for 3d person shooters like gta4, resident evil 5, just cause 2, mafia 2 demo... etc etc. It even works with games I wouldn't dream of using it in, like arma 2 and fallout 3.

The controls are already setup by default for it in most games, and it doesn't interfere with my sidewinder joystick -both of them are plugged in all the time.

It's really much better than any dedicated joypad or playstation converter I've used.
 
Is it worth going for the official 360 pad for windows or are them cheaper clones decent enough and would they be just as supported as the "official" one? I mean the official is 15 quid but if the cheaper 6 quid ones that look identical and are just as good then might buy one of them but i duno has anyone tried the clones?

Also is the 360 pad any good for ps2 games through the emulator or say a gamecube emulator or the wii emulator? As i really fancied a actual ps2 pad cos of the signs on the buttons.
 
I'm not sure tbh. I think half of what makes the xbox one good is that it's designed to just work in windows 7. If you get a clone, you risk the driver not being as good, and then you end up with the same problems people have had for years using generic pc pads.
 
Just get the Xbox pad for £15, you can't go wrong. All you have to do is plug it in and most games work with no setting up in windows or in the game. I can only think of Mass Effect where it doesn't work and GTA 3 where it works but not to look around. Many games also give you the on-screen prompts of the buttons, like an Xbox 360 would. Most games I play allow you to swap between them as you like, I.E both are active, so you can trade M+KB for joypad as you enter/exit vehicles for example or just for when walking becomes shooting etc. Obviously you have to set it up for emulators but just by plugging it in, it appears in Mame, Zsnes, Fusion and everything I can think of actually. You just need to choose your buttons.

I've had mine about 4 years and I can honestly say that aside from emulators, I've never done anything with it apart from play games. No drivers, no setup (well obviusly there are drivers, but windows has dealt with those 100%)

I used a ps2 adapter and it was hit and miss for most games whether it would work. Since buying the 360 pad I've had no problems with any game
 
Thing is for emulator games i really want the symbols on the buttons for easy remembering. Plus the 4 shoulder buttons would be required probably for the ps2 games.

You actually look at the pad and match the symbols to what you see on screen? :confused:

Excluding the analogue stick the layouts are identical, and you've got the same number of buttons in the same place. Sure there's triggers instead of buttons on the xbox pad, but that makes no difference to gameplay.

You seem set on the PS2 pad though so I'm not sure what the point of the thread is tbh. ;)

The Xbox is the better pad, with better support at the end of the day. You wont find anything that works as well for the PC.

Xbox 360 pad is much easier for simple plug and play and the fact it easily works most of the time, especially for modern games of recent years where support for it is already programmed and out of the box. And as it is an official Microsoft product, drivers and such with Windows XP/Vista/7 is easy to get or already there, so configuration is very easy to do.

The PS2 pad is more hassle to setup with USB convertors and drivers, but it is great for much older titles or as already mentioned, for emulators, especially where the D-pad would be used a lot more. The 360's D-pad is pathetic for 2D games for example.

I'm more of a PS2 pad user for the above reasons, and I use the Super Joy Box 5 Pro which has Windows 7 x64 drivers and it works perfectly for me.

It really is a case looking at the combination of the types of games you play and your personal preference for which one you are comfortable with.

And as above, matching symbols is easy as the PS2 and 360 pads have the same amount of buttons, just laid out differently. The face buttons shouldn't be too hard to map out if you are familiar with where the Sqaure, Triangle, Circle and X's are. And the shoulder triggers, well you can easily map L2 and R2 to the 360's Triggers, or what other way you prefer.

For example;

Xbox 360 / PS2

A = X
B = Circle
X = Square
Y = Triangle
Left Shoulder = L1
Right Shoulder = R1
Left Trigger = L2
Right Trigger = R2
Left Analogue = L3
Right Analogue = R3

And the Start and Select are no brainers.

Yeah i will quickly glance at the symbols now and then when gaming with ps2 emulator games as i can never remember which is where :p If i could live without the symbols then id not be that bothered its just when i use other pads i have had over the years i used to write down the symbols to buttons on a piece of paper haha just so i know where the x was or somit when the game is saying to press.
 
Ended up getting these things. Got the pad and had a go on my ps2 with it its ok i guess tho i didnt realise it was 8 way dpad as i like 4way instead like snes and official ps2 ones.

I think an Xbox 360 pad would have been a lot better. I've got a wireless one my self and it's the best PC game pad I've used yet (and I've used a lot!).
 
Shouldnt have really as not got that much money hence the ps2 route. But since i saw game had getting more 360 pads for windows i snapped one up cos of the low price which i hope is a special price not a normal price of 14.99 wired ones.
 
PS2 pads workin fine with rumble so far with the cheap adapter, plays well in pcsx2 with games like ffx and grandia 3 and persona 4. Tried it in sf4 pc version and it feels weird i think im too used to keyboard for that game. :(
