Gamers Needed - Dissertation Help :)

It is quite possible they are identical to the questions that would be asked of alcoholics/drug users and it is the reaction to the questions being asked, rather than the answers that may be given, that are of interest.

In which case, when this thread is assessed, I'd prefer you put this post in the healthy paranoia category ;O)

Done, I don't see why this information you got would be of use about gamers though. Seems more like questions you would ask alcoholics/drug users

It did not effect me at all. i can spend a month without gaming, then a week playing nearly each day for long-ish hours, then a month without gaming etc.

I responded to everything with a 1, as it has not changed me, 9except 1 or 2 questions).
She may think its a troll.

If she does then both myself and my brother, who also took the survey, will also be branded thus....we both answered with (1) to everything and the final written answers as 'it has no effect' or words to that effect.

I'm not sure what the survey will accomplish to be honest, maybe Stephanie will return and explain her reasoning at some point?

I answered to the best of my ability, however i believe there will be a lot of subjective answering simply due to the wording, for example:

I have become more talkative 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5.

I am an extremely talkative person, however gaming has NOT made me become more talkative, so should i answer 1 for it not increasing or 5 because im talkative?
My logic made me answer 1, but i hope you can see how others might disagree?

Same with most of them, i'm extremely reliable, but gaming hasn't made me so.

Had to use my BF3 stats to try and figure out how many hours a week roughly I play online.

Mainly answered not at all to the questions as well. I can see how some people might let gaming affect their lifestyles and relationships. But its all down to the individual involved I guess.

The only thing I did note that may have changed for me is that since I've started gaming online, right back to those RTCW days, I've probably exercised more. But I think that might be a maturity thing rather any inherent link to gaming to destress.

The problem with surveys like this is, people will often give the wrong answers, not because they are trying to lie, but they do not know themselves how gaming has affected them. Gaming has affected every one here in one way or another, whether you know it or not.

No more than playing a game of tennis, or a game of darts over a beer.....

You might as well say that everything we do affects us one way or another.....

Agreed, that's why there are plenty of studies out there that show marked differences in brain growth due to playing playing games ie causing increased aggression but then the other part no Daily Mail article never mentions is the corresponding growth in the centres for social control demonstrating a balancing act going on. That is a far more interesting area where we can actually see latent genetic potential getting shaped by environmental factors, in this case games, to cause a deviation away from what we expect.

This is great, way over 100 responses so far :) Thank you so much!

Desires, there is a de-brief... I wrote one and set one to appear :(

Thank you all again, its running until Monday morning if anyone else can help submit, especially females. If you know any girl gamers who can help out it will help loads.

Which it does. I know if I had played any sport for the length of time and to the level I played video games it would be on my C.V., because I'd be able to talk about teamwork, leadership and motivation. Video games? Not on my C.V. because it's associated with laziness and being a serial killer.

The survey is completely retarded.. the questions are poorly written and show a complete lack of understanding.

Gave up as can't make any sense of it.

Gaming hasn't made more confident, aggressive, talkative... it's just entertainment like reading a book, watching TV or playing football.

Quite, but the assumptions within the survey imply a significant difference between Gaming and other pursuits and pastimes...
