Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

Would like to listen to the Audiolab, one thing they do very well is DAC implementation, they make ESS chips sound amazing, people don't understand that having the latest DAC chip means nothing, it's 90% down to implementation which significantly impacts the final audio quality, I had the classic M-DAC back in the day which was a very influential DAC, so much circuitry surrounding a simple chip.

It's the quality of the output stage, but it's also keeping the RFI low, as this effects analogue stage and also clocks causing jitter.. The new Naim D50 DAC has separate digital and analogue sections with their own PSU, my Yamaha SACD players do the same. Google inside picture of Yamaha cd-s2100/3000. The Naim D50 has built in passive AC filtering also.

Agreed, I'm still using their q-dac which was the slightly cut down m-dac.

Plus points of a varnished wood grained cabinet in a mid-field setup = Enjoy the play of reflections and light throughout the day

Still impressed they are hand made by the French, my experience with French in-house stuff hasn't been great before, Yema watches for example, always some details that feel unrefined or something. not so here!

errh really odd thing happened today.

I no longer able to change the volume from the knob in my keyboard, that option is greyed out!

I can mute it but can't change the volume. I prefer it this way tbh.

So with some OSes and some USB DAC connections the OS volume control is not operable as it's not needed or you're in a specific mode for direct streaming right to the DAC. Also volume attenuation should always be on the DAC/amp not in the OS which is software limiting, reduces the dynamic range and stuff at low volume from past experience. Always leave OS at max, adjust volume via the DAC/amp.

That's the thing, it is this way with the Xduoo but the first day with the Topping....it was not....now it is.

It is also with the same firmware too, because I updated it when i was at work, this is all happening at home.

Meh, I turned if off at the back and on again then I can control the volume from my keyboard again lol

New firmware please Topping!

You are now part of the beta test community :p

By the way I got my running temps down by quite a lot, it feels like it;s 5-10 degrees cooler to the touch for both PA7 and X9 since moving the PA7 beside it on the desk instead of leaving the PA7 on top. I may need longer XLR cables now though if I plan to shuffle anything around in future...

ahh right, strange, don't think I've ever encountered that before, unless your keyboard volume control is conflicting with it? Does it happen if you unplug your keyboard?

It's not the keyboard, unplugging it I am still able to change the volume with my stream deck's buttons.

Last night it wouldn't let me.

edit - I turned it off the back and on again and now it is back to greyed out.

I also notice that the Topping will automatically causes the Stream Deck to switch to headphone out when I wake it up from standby. The Xduoo didn't do that.

TBH I'm a bit confused on your setup, your running the DX5 with the steam deck? I'm probably being dumb, but how is all this connected?

StReam Deck, not Steam Deck lol

It is just a device with software with extra buttons. I configured it to allow me to control audio on one page with Play, Pause, forward and back on. tracks. Also mute mic and audio and switching between speakers and headphones.

p.s. I need to calibrate the OLED on the right!

hahahah, that makes sense now! that was confusing me to no end!! Nice setup, I can see how using the Stream deck would be quite useful, temped to grab one myself.

So is it conflicting with the Stream deck then? does unplugging that remedy the problem?

Onboard with an x870e tachi lite to an Audio technica m50x headphones. Also using a streamplify usb mic.

Edit I've replaced the ear muffs once with the m50x headphones. Was a little tricky but got there in the end.

Honestly I don’t know what is conflicting…it could be the software in Mac OS…I mean I could try my MacBook too without any other variables to see.

The Mac Mini is 6 months old and the MacBook is barely out of the box new, I only got it a month ago and only installed software I need for when I need it and not used it at all.
