Games-com 2013

Yeah I really don't think Sony feel they need to offer more incentives. I suspect their pricing was their single big move, I don't see them getting into a battle with MS over who can offer more free stuff.
Well its that and its eminently easy for them to shout about PS+ and for the price of a game what youll get out of it - at end of day its a far more substantial long term offering and far more likely to encapsulate every type of gamer. The track records of MS/Sony over this generation and how they supported their consoles speaks for itself...

Great show though, MS have succeeded to make Sony squirm, wonder how theyll be at the conference.

The beginning of the current-gen seemed pretty bad at the time, Sony were struggling to get so many things right and MS were blitzing it in contrast. But yes, this time round it does feel like the actual consoles themselves are on a more level playing field than ever before, and it's really the strategies of both companies that are proving interesting.

Have the console wars ever been so violent, strategic and blatent before?

Between companies? "Sega does what Nintendon't" was probably the worst of it or at least most blatent. That's all I can remember anyway... xD

I hate all this "exclusive content for Xbone," "exclusive content for PS4" crap. I'm not going to buy one system over another because it has an extra magic gold wand or something.

Going to happen more and more now the really big games are so big that exclusivity just means a reduction in profits if they tied themselves to only one platform. If its remains as annoying and insignificant as preorder bonuses its not that big of a deal...

The real problem is when it's huge chunks of content, like MS' period of exclusivity on the GTA4 episodes.

They wont!

Im very much confused why US XOs pre-orders wont get free FIFA, I know its no Madden out there but its still popular, hmm... Damn its quite a coup for MS, was really hoping CoD would be the free game :(

I don't think they could include a game like CoD free, even if they wanted to, as it would effectively restrict the sale of the console to those older than the PEGI rating on CoD, which will be at least a 15. They had to get something that everyone could play (even though we all know hardly anyone pays attention to PEGI ratings).

Yep, that all started this gen with the end of real third party exclusives.

I much preferred it back in the days when consoles had really different librarys due to third party exclusives. Made all of the consoles more appealing in their own ways IMO. Now I just feel like the developers are cutting bits out of games so that they can be 'exclusives' on another console.

I don't think FIFA 14 is that huge a coup. It's only for per-orders and I'd say your average person who plays won't even be upgrading this year. I have two big FIFA lovers in my family and both will wait for price reductions before buying a new console. I know a sample size of two is hardly scientific though. I would have preferred a cheaper, Kinect-less offering myself. :p

Now you say that, Im guessing the chance of a price cut post launch is even more likely to happen sooner rather than later. MS have already sweetened the deal for EU preorders and if you dont fit in that demographic then youll be hoping for a similar 'deal' to entice you to the XO as you might be miffed to not get as good as deal. It will be interesting to see if this leads to more pre-orders or more IMO ensures established pre-orders remain...
