I'm looking to buy an SSD to host my game installs on such as Steam.

I quite like the price of the Crucial M500 480GB drive. It doesn't quite have the performance of other drives but would still be a huge improvement on my current mechanical drive (WT Black 4TB).

Has anyone had any experience of these drives? Is there a reason they're £30+ cheaper than other drives of similar size?

Thanks :)

Performance, you are essentially paying for additional speed. Whether it's noticable or not is debatable.

If they're SATA III going onto a SATA III motherboard I genuinely doubt you could notice any difference from one to another short of running benchmarks, failure rate is arguably more important. Samsung, Crucial and Intel are IMO the most reliable SSD brands presently.

Yeah, I am more concerned about it's reliability than speed. Any game isn't going to improve it's performance from one SSD to another, they just don't read/write data that quickly.

So sounds like Crucial make pretty reliable SSDs then?

I've got a Sammsung 840 500gb as my main drive with all games etc on it. I've not had any speed or reliability issues, I just wish I'd got a 1tb version now though.
