Games for Kids

When I was a kid I loved the original Command and Conquer games (the first one and Red Alert). I also remember spending hours and hours playing the original Civilisation as well.

Well worth a look. I know you can get the original Command and Conquer games from Origin and Civilisation is also available on Steam. Personally I prefer Civ 4 to Civ 5 but the choice is yours.

Access the free games on websites such as NickJR, Cbeebies, Disney etc. Most of them are educational too.

Consider getting a tablet too, there are some great games that 3 year olds can play on their own. The Peppa Pig ones especially.

Grand theft auto 5
Postal 2
Doom 3

Oh, non voilent ?

Original 2d Rollercoaster tycoon games.
Zoo tycoon ( 2d ones!)
Sims ( girls seem to love the sims)
Civilization series ( I started with original sid meiers civilization at age of 7 or 8 or so) ?

Personally when I was little I played Commander Keen, tetris, paratrooper, etc... Simple 16 or 256 color games. Then I moved on to age of empires, c&c games, red alert, knights and merchants, settlers, etc...

Disney games sound a little, dumb, I learned a lot of English from games like Knights and Merchants or Settlers, and a lot about materials eg. how iron comes from iron ore, how you can turn grain into four and then into bread, etc...

For the age of 3 though, probably quite complex though. At this age Disney games are fine I guess, as are simple games like Bejewled or other popcap (puzzle) games.

I do remember the time she walked in as I was playing MKX and her reaction to a fatality was "Daddy, is that man sad?"

You'd be amazed at how much she picks up, she's had my geekyness passed on to her since she was a newborn, she's had access to a (basic) computer at nursery from 9 months and she's asked for a laptop for Christmas.

I don't think it'll be long before I get to do a build log with her :D

+1 for Lego Marvel Superheroes & Batman 1+2.
If they want a more linear experience, then Lego Movie is good as well.

Lego Batman 3 is a little more involved with having to switch between suits all the times for puzzles and the second player can't help/coax the first as easily in game.

I also have a WiiU and the kids adore it. It may not have call of dooty on it but for mario games, racers and other 'kid friendly' titles it's fantastic.

Mine too. 5 year old son. Lego games, Next Car Game and Fallout series. Although with the latter gotta be careful with the zombie mode ! :)
Just bought a cheapo Thrustmaster Steering wheel off the bay too.
My two sons and I play 3-way (with AI) NCG/Flatout LAN multiplayer. Great fun.
