I kind of, for an unknown reason, deleted my gfwl profile whilst creating a new one for dirt 2. My gta4 was saved on an offline profile and now i have only an online profile for dirt2. Now, i have the save game folder for gta4 from the following location:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames

My question, how can i use those save files to play gta4 again?

From what I read in the Batman thread, GfW LIVE profiles and associated game saves are encrypted. So if you format your HDD or delete your profile, you've had it.

Not the case as my Fallout 3 save is fine.

Edit: Saying that they are tied to a account I think. All I know is there was a bug where if you played Fallout 3 without GFWL then installed it, it started a new game. However you could move the old save to the new profiles folder and it would work.

So if the OP has deleted his offline profile, then the game saves are buggered, aren't they? An online profile can always be recovered so game saves ought to work but an offline one not so.

Don't think so. All he needs to do is find the path where GTAIV will load the game with GFWL installed. The path he has the save in currently is the default GTAIV path. If he moves it to the GFWL path like I did with Fallout 3 he should be fine.

Thanks, i would be annoyed if i cannot play the game with my saves. There is no way im playing the game again if it turns out that way. Going to try to make it work.

I tried to use my e-mail address to sign up for GFWL but it said my e-mail address already had an account attached so I choose change password and it won't let me because I haven't picked a secret question.

Solution to contact GFWL just great but how do I do that?

You can use anyone's savegames, but you have to get their Xlive folder too located in C:\Users\UserName\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\. This means if you get pretty far in say GTA4 and your hdd blows to smithereens, if you ask someone on here, they might give you their savegame and Xlive folder to get you back in the game without starting all over again. You sign in offline mode only using their username. The problem with doing it like this is, if you want to play a different game that uses GFWL, you can't load your saves for that particular game because your using someone else's profile and they might not have the game.

I somewhat doubt anyone would be willing to give you their GFWL GTA4 profile but it is possible to do it this way as i've done the same thing for batman recently. I got pretty far and lost my saves. A quick google and someones savegame and was back in the game pretty much where i left off. I did obviously backup my original Xlive folder as it contains all the other games you might have. I couldn't play any other game with the GFWL title until i completed batman, but once i did finish it, i deleted the profile that came with the savegame, restored my original GFWL profile and was back to normal. Google it. There must be someone out there that has a GTA4 savegame with Xlive folder.

What i done for Batman is...

Loaded up the game as normal made a save point then went into the save game folder and renamed my old save with the same name as the new one. Then deleted the new save point obviously...

Load Batman back up and bingo :)

Cool, have not tried that yet. I must say i hate this GFWL especially if you are playing offline. Bring back the traditional saving of games.

GFWL offline & online profiles are 2 different things. For SP only games you can usually restore the save file otherwise your so out of luck

Its designed that way to prevent achievement cheaters/hackers from unlocking everything by hex editing.

MS should find a better way to enforce this as the following games all suffer from lost save progress when the live servers go down like last night

DiRT2
Gears Of War
SF4
Lost Planet Extreme Colonies
Halo 2

And any other GFWL game which has any form of MP using an online profile. Last night I lost 4 achievements on DiRT2 now they will not unlock at all on the server only locally
