So, i've been watching Battlestar Galactica recently and have the need to play some space related games, the only ones i can think of are X2 and Eve, are there any others which are simply space combat orientated?

This thread is slightly different as he wants 'simply space combat' rather than elements of trading/economy.

Far and away your best option is Freespace 2. It is the best space combat game around, has a very strong storyline and very intuitive controls. Don't be put off by the fact that it is 10 years old; there is a very strong modding community so the game looks excellent when running FSOpen with the latest texture mods etc: http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,50.0.html

Freelancer is quite popular and is a good game in it's own right, but in terms of combat, it isn't in remotely the same league as FS2.

I-War 2 is another popular game and features a strong physics model, but the lack of proper mouse support put me off it.

I always loved StarLancer. Used to play the campaign in Co-op with my mate via 56K dial-up  Awesome game! Otherwise, I-War 2 and Freespace 2 is good.

Yeah. I just decided I'd give it another blast and am having trouble finding the retail files. Didn't notice they didn't have that up anymore. :(

I'm hoping I've still got it on my other machine. My original cd's look like they've been skated across sandpaper.

Bah can't get it working in Windows7, just flickers like crazy or just sits at a black screen, probably an issue with the OGL ATI drivers.
