Games in Space.

This is my first post, LONG time lurker here. I actually built my computer from what I learned from this forum.

I can't believe no one mentioned Jumpgate Evolution. New twitch combat based MMO (skill wins fights, not some arbitrary level). I actually stumbled upon it browsing this very forum. Beta is supposed to be very soon (ie. this month or next). 150k beta sign-ups already.

Just a quick headsup, Jumpgate Evolution is looking pretty good from the vid's on youtube, no idea what the sub price will be yet but It's looking pretty good.

Snowdog: I'm still looking for the solution to a problem with Bridge Commander: The graphics are naffed up, making it not unplayable, just plain stripey and ugly.

It used to run OK on my old WIN98 rig, but the problem shows itself on any machine since: XP, VISTA with GeForce or ATI cards.

Have you come across this?

I'd love to get back into it.

Babylon 5's I've Found Her : http://ifh.babylonfive.ru/

Man that was SO difficult to learn to fly!! Very impressive physics though, definitely the best space-flight game if you're after a realistic simulation.

Off topic, but I always found it funny that B5's Starfuries had the aerodynamic design of a bulldozer yet in the series had atmospheric flight capability, whereas BSG's Viper's have proper wings and everything yet seem to be solely designed for space flight (Starbuck's fighter broke apart as soon as it entered atmosphere iirc, right?) - why the hell do you need wings and a rudder in a freaking vacuum???

The Vipers can also do atmospheric flight. You saw this a fair bit in the ep where they all "left" New Caprica.

God, I've watched that series too much :S Had to resist going into very tedious detail :p

You sure? I only ever remember Raptors actually landing on planets? And was Starbuck's Viper made of tinfoil then?

If you mean in the episode where she randomly learns to fly a cylon thingy and then VACUUM PROOFS IT BY STICKING A JACKET IN THE HOLE... Well, stop thinking too hard about it :D

(can't remember, was her ship not hit before? I might be getting it confused with the terrible Enemy Mine film)

That's the one where her damaged Viper crashes yeah. I think for the most part suspense of disbelief for things like this is a good thing ;)

The ep with decent Viper atmospheric flight is one of the first eps in the second half of series two. The one with probably one of the best scenes (in terms of "my god that rocks!") involving the BSG itself in atmosphere :)
