hey there, i just got borderlands and when i go to play it i take about 2 steps and screen freezes and the monitor goes black then comes back on which means i can take another few steps and the same thing happens, i've updated the drivers and still no luck. it also happens in SOME other games but not all.

i'm running windows 7 rc, i've got e6600, 6gb ram, 4870 512mb, i've even undone my overclocks and still the same results. should i just try a fresh install or is there something obvious i am forgetting? are these windows 7 problems?

When i installed W7, and played Borderlands i had it crash a few times, but it was due to my OC on my CPU, however it was not a problem with Vista. So i lowered the OC and it works fine now...

as i've said i've removed all my o/cs and still no luck. i can still play games like cod4, css, l4d etc alright but borderlands, crysis and grid and another 1 or 2 are causing problems. more graphically demanding games?

That sounds like the graphics driver is repeatedly crashing and Windows is having to reset it. It can be a software or a hardware problem. I would try underclocking the GPU to see if it still happens. The card might be borked and have issues running at stock speeds.

ok i'll give that a good tomorrow. anyone else have any ideas? i want to play borderlands this weekend... havn't had a new game in a long time

so you have 6Gb of RAM? is it a triple channel mobo? you said you have a e series CPU so im not sure. Maybe you have 3 sticks of 2Gb. If so i think that may be your problem, try running the dual channel memory in the dual channel slots (normally stick, space, stick, space) and see if it crashes then

shouldn't be a problem, it would just run in single channel mode.

I'm with Mattus on this one, sounds like a gpu issue, what are your gpu temps like in crysis etc? Also try as he has suggested and underclock it.

may i ask what psu you have? It could be a possibility if the graphics cards tests don't throw up anything as demanding games will increase workload on system therefore upping power draw.

i've got a corsair 520W, i'll tery underclock and check temps now
