remember Enemy territory 5+ years ago.

2 teams axis vs allies. and you would progress on the map after completing objectives. 1 team defends, other attacks.

I have found no game like it since..but a mode called Combat mission on MOH was kinda similar.

ANy games like this old ET?

The closest you'll get is Brink - made by the same people, with classes and objectives etc. If you get a good team together it plays well and is great fun, but it has been watered down a little to cater for the console crowd and has been plagued with performance issues.

We seriously need an uptodate version or RTCW or ET. After years of playing these in clans every teambased shooter released since feels basic and dumbed down.

//edit - Oh, check out Quake Wars. Again, made by the same people. Think ET with vehicles.

Red Orchestra 2

Countdown Mode - One side attacks objectives and one defends then when all the points are captured you switch sides and have to beat their capturing time or if they fail to capture all the points capture more points than them.

ETQW and Wolfenstein were similar. ETQW was good, but not compared to ET. Wolf was just an abortion of a game.

Rush mode on battlefield2 bad company sounds exactly what you're after? Wait till tomorrow and get free beta access to bf3 and see if it comes with the rush game type

Man I sunk hours of my life in EnTer, what a great little game. We set up TeamSpeak online so I could chat while playing with all my clan members!

Another vote for Battlefield BC2, it has that defend/attack element of EnTer, plus the advancing when you complete certain objectives. It's on a much bigger scale though, and doesn't have spies :(

Did you ever play RtCW, where ET spawned from? Still a few people playing that, 1.4 and 1.0. Give it a try :)

Only the super hardcore are still playing RTCW - it's painful!

It's still worth checking out though, if only to experience the best team/class based fps there has been! As good as ET was, it wasn't a patch on RTCW.

youre right i play bfbc2 and it is like Et in the way it works butthe objective is always same, destroy 2 crates.

ET had specific map tasks and was set up better, much better maps really designed for the objectives and progression....bfbc2 rush is just liek big open conquest map shotrened with 2 crates. Whereas ET the map was designed perfect. Like staionary AA guns, bridges, tunnels etc...and each new section off the map that opneed up after an objective was complete was different. eg..fuel dump

I think MOH combat mission is more like ET than rush bfbc2.

As for RTCW this is same gfx/age as ET but more players?

Its amazing how many games out there just don't quite tick all the boxes and you find that its always non-game developers who have the best ideas that just dont get listened to.

At work yesterday a games designer (we work for a shop, no jobs and all that) was telling me how he couldnt wait to get into the industry and start making games and then said to me "I think what I'm gunna do is play some of the great games so I know what people want, like.. the latest cod.."

I always ask people what platform they play on and I remember him telling me he only ever played a few console games and wasnt much of a gamer, I've met 10+ people with this exact story who are all into games development which really made me realise why gameplay is so poor these days. There is only one person I know that is actually a 'proper' gamer who develops games and thats a mate from a CS 1.6 clan I was in for years, guy was and still is a beast to so that makes me happy. Anyway I'd tuned out to this guy and when he finished dribbling I said "Do yourself a favour, make sure you play some of the great older competitive games and make a decent game" though I couldnt help but think he won't bother really trying them because they look rubbish compared to what ever he's played. So his reply?

Him: "Like doom?"

/facepalm and I just changed the subject.

I long await the day a game developer 100% listens to someone who knows what we actually want.

Rush mode is nothing like ET/etc. The fact that it has objectives that your team blows up isn't enough by itself to turn it into an ET-like game.

The person you spoke to sounds like a bit of a tool. They label themselves as a "games designer" yet they've not actually worked at that and have no idea or enthusiasm for gaming. If they studied for that they must've been an awful student.

Its quite a trend I've noticed among guys my age (25) that are in this business.. they generally don't play many games and the ones they do are console based.

It just baffles me why people would go into games designing, its gotta be purely for any money as its definitely not for making a long term successful game of old.

I think thats my explanation for why there are no decent competitive games out there anymore.. I mean sure there are some good casual ones but I think competitive games are now a niche.. maybe a dragons den idea! ;)

I agree with you on the competitive side of gaming where they keep making the same generic games over and over and tend to concentrate more on making it "look good" rather than making the gameplay their main selling point.

But you have to also think of how many of games the industry is lacking in general and the lack of imagination from some of the developers nowadays.

This is why indie games are far more popular nowadays than some of the big game studios, you have people making great games with some amazing new ideas instead of pumping out generic remakes.

So. Are you/they "in the business" or have you just studied a related subject? The two are quite different.

Neither for me! I'm just a long term gamer that thinks he knows what'd make a good game ;) - He I believe studied some form of games development at uni or coding or something.. I try to keep my memories rage free ;)

baplad, i agree man it sucks but even with all the samey games over and over youd really hope one would have a better competitive gameplay.. i cant help but think if mw2 had dedicated servers and a customizable search and destroy mode we might well be half way there.. the other half would be some serious perk tweaking!
