These are how I see my twin Titans :p

I think we need to see how your Titans go in SLI, will they run hot, do they need any space between them and most important of all what sort of scaling they manage.:):p:D

I think they will only run well for a few seconds at maximum speed and then need to cool down for abit. These Titans work better the closer they get oddly :D

Greg quick question if you are still reading this. Are they even natural blonde?

No, they are dark haired (look at the eyebrows to always know, unless they die the eyebrows of course...who bloody cares lol) :D

Thanks for this thread. Really brought home how 2Gb is more than enough for 1920x1080, especially when you consider what the game "needs" is going to be less than reported.

Have some stars!

Bioshock Infinite @ Everything max, DDOF enabled @ 5760x1080
2492MB max usage.

Crossfire doubles GPU-z reported usage I read, so 4984/2

This is after playin for a good two hours

Kind of answered my question, cheers!

I'll ask anyway :)

I currently game at 1680x1050 and 1920x1080. I really like the look of the Tahiti LE based cards but they only have 2Gb VRAM. Should I save more and get a 7950 with 3Gbs VRAM?

Bearing in mind they come with things like Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, Crysis 3, Far Cry 3....

I'd see if you can get more out the cpu overclock, regardless of the gpu. If you don't mind not having every detail set to maximum in all games, then a 7800XT will serve you very well, though I think it'll play everything well anyway. Even a 7950 might have to compromise on something further down the line. :)

Tar.

Just thinking that the result of running out of VRAM seems to be performance dropping off a cliff rather than a gradual decline. I suppose I'd just tweak the settings until I stay within 2048 VRAM.

Cheers. Payday, hurry up.

In your case, I'd first base your decision on the level of detail that you generally desire, rather than the amount of vram a card has. Think of the processing power as the most important factor, and the memory second.

So, if you want max this and max that, 60fps etc, then I'd push for the highest card you can afford. If like myself, you don't need 60fps minimum as a rule, and are happy as long as the frame rate is smooth with all / almost all eye candy enabled, but are willing to use lower levels of AA in some situations, then a 7870XT will be a solid performer. Btw, with an overclock they can run faster than some stock 7950's.

Again, at 3.2ghz, your cpu will hold back any of the modern gpu's to a varying degree. However, you still will see a big performance increase in most titles, but where you will particularly lose out is the minimum frame rate, which imho is the most important reading. So, if possible, I would recommend increasing the overclock; you should notice a difference. I hope I haven't put you off, lol. My current card ran most games very well with a Q6600 @ 3.4, but I certainly have noticed better performance with my new cpu. Just something to bear in mind. :)

Actually my sig is a bit out of date, I'm currently running an i5 2400, boosts up to 3.4GHz. Hopefully this helps.

I do like to have everything ticked in the vid options, but not so bothered about maxing AA. I usually like AF pretty high though.

I've seen an offer for a 7870 with 5 new games for a pretty fair price, which beats waiting for another 7950 at £200 deal.

Information summarised for resolutions with enough data. Original post re-written with the intention of being an archive of this experiment. A new thread can be created when the state of play changes significantly. Thanks to everyone who provided data for this thread :)

Star wars: The old republic

5760x1200 - 1.48 GB  its actually 6012x1200 after bezel correction. Max details and AA applied with in game settings.

590GTX, is struggling here, time for a better card I think, maybe this is the reason when I add a 2nd 590 it sees no benefit at all, in fact it actually slows down. I always assumed that it was due to the pci slots not being 16x16, but maybe it really is a vram limit.
