I sold a couple of PS3 games to another forum member and posted them 1st class recorded delivery. His mum signed for the package this morning but when he got back from uni and opened it up it was empty??? I have called the royal mail and they are sending me a claim form, but do I stand much chance of recovering any money? has anyone else had a similar problem?

I was the buyer.

The package was fairly light and I assumed it was a optical cable i was waiting on, so i ripped it open to find it empty :(

Are we covered for this?

I dont want to be the bearer of bad news but my experience of the royal mail's lost parcel system is very slow.

It took about 2.5 months from start to finish ie putting in the claim and actually getting any money. They will send both of you letters and you have to return them answering questions about the parcel and then they make a descision.

I lost about 20 quids worth of stuff and they sent me a cheque for 14 pounds. I have no idea why or how they came to those conclusions as the items had a very definite value.

So in short, claim away but dont expect fast results.

I assume you kept the section returned to you when you sent it recorded delivery?

"In the unlikely event of loss or damage, your recorded items are automatically covered for up to £32 compensation. Items such as cash or jewellery are not covered under this service"

You won't get a penny more than £32 unless you paid for additional insurance cover.

Thanks for reply Windle :)

I'm guessing £32 is better than losing it all.

last time i claimed all i got was a book of 1st class stamps and 2 special delivery bags, now anything i send gets sent Special delivery

Last time I claimed for a broken mobile phone the service was great. Both parties filled in the forms quickly and correctly, and a cheque arrived pretty sharpish actualy. This was about 8 years ago now mind.

Generally they send you a couple of stamps. I had a problem with post being stolen recently but luckily the supplier sent me the goods and took over the problem at no further charge.

always send using a courier (spelling) and even if it takes 2 weeks to make it cheaper its better than losing your gear

B.t.w *pwned*
I have worked for several large courier companies in the past and beleive me when I tell you the amount of stuff they 'lose' is incredible!

Couriers are the worst! I think their drivers tend to go for stuff that's obviously from somewhere that sells electronics/tools etc. I have about 5 or 6 different courier companies delivering to me at work regularly. Most of them at some point have offered to sell me stuff literally out of the back of their lorries.

A courier to send a couple of console games? OTT. Special Delivery would have been my choice on this occasion.

He was joking too, he said the couriers offer him things stolen from the trucks, This thread is about Joebob loosing ps3 games and he said he doesnt have anything apart from some ps3 games (joebob's games)

Am sure most of you got it anyway :) I found it funny the joke not the situation
