games only use 50% of my GPU's issue

hey all

Here is the issue im faceing...

I have a 5970 and a 5850 in tri-fire. All clocked to same 950 / 1250

I recently had to reinstall windows due to a mainboard issue and its all placed on a brand new GA-X58A-UD5.

I tryed batman and Justcause 2 today and im seeing VERY low FPS and also all 3 of my GPU's are not useing more then 50% of each acording to Afterburner on my G15 LCD...

This is the same for KOMbuster but furmark 100% is gained.

No benchmark actually uses the 100% of each gpu...

This is a new install with drivers 10.6
I used to use Aprils 10.x drivers... should i switch back?

Im upset by this as i have a £900 GPU setup with watercooling and im getting less then a stock 5970 would get!

There's your problem. There's been loads of crossfire problems with these drivers, I would roll back to 10.5.

Batman isn't a great example for multi GPU scaling... it only gains around 20% per card performance wise in multi GPU and a 4th GPU hardly contributes at all. Not sure about Just Cause 2.

hey

just went back to Aprils 8.74 AKA 10.x drivers and now im getting 35fps within eyefinity in just cause 2 with 4xaa and 6060x1200 with bezel managment.

It was 13-19fps with 10.6....

BUT

before it was :

GPU 1 : 49%
GPU 2 : 43%
GPU 3 : 51% taken from a random part of a log

Now its:
GPU1 : 68%
GPU2 : 51%
GPU3 : 39%

tbh im not sure why its still running such low percentages on each GPU.... But the performance is much better with older drivers lol.

I havent actually given 10.5's a try becuase they have an older driver number then the leaked april ones... 10.5 are 8.735 and mine are 8.740

you can't measure GPU load by %

a 70% crysis load is more straining and has a higher load than a 70% CoD4 load

I would expect 100% usage at that res. Usually, you only get less than 100% usage on old games that aren't demanding or if you have a big bottleneck in the CPU, like I get with my laptop and BC2.

Try 10.5 and the crossfire profiles that go with it.
