GOOD RIDDANCE!!!!! (it's all from the same "dev" and valve just gave him the boot!)

KC teachers, parents outraged by video game that simulates school shooting

A new video game simulated school shootings. After outcry, it got taken down.

I think it's kind of ridiculous that they were allowed on Steam in the first place. Steam really need to sort it out - the amount of junk on the store is awful :(

The school shooter game in particular, really should have been pulled far earlier than it was - It's things like this that could make governments crack down on video games. Once it gets on the news, it's not too soon before someone from Government has something to say about it, and then you've got people who don't know what they're talking about making silly laws to restrict the industry.

This will now set precedent for future games and I fear we'll soon see this get out of hand.
Sure it was in poor taste, but I fear now all you need to do is cry about a game and it'll get removed. I'm more offended by all the absolute **** copies and drivel that gets churned out and expensive early access games than those that are of poor taste.

Hopefully it doesn't end up like that, and they just learn from the mistake and review games properly to avoid the social retard uproar, before allowing them on Steam

Agreed with the above posts; games need to be reviewed before being allowed on Steam. Laziness on Valve's part to allow such games on Steam, wait for complaints, then look to remove said games.

On a side note; why do some people who play games refer to Steam as a company? Not targeting those above in particular; I see plenty of people in threads talking about Steam as if that's the company. Steam is a platform. I don't see those people saying, 'I've got a problem with Windows 10. Windows really needs to fix their operating system'. :p

Haha it's a fair point well made :D

I've always spoken about Steam as if it's a company, but you're right it should have been directed towards Valve :p

Whilst I don't care what is put in games (within reason), the idea behind this one is in very poor taste and the dev/s should be ashamed. Trying to cash in on such a barbaric thing is disgraceful.

They're not being lazy, they're just lapping up the free publicity which they knew they'd get.

tbh, while I don't agree with the premise of the game and wouldnt have played it anyway, it says a lot about steam/valve when a developer they have previously banned for bad business practices can release 7 games before they even find out. Even then it took international MSM articles to make them notice it was an issue, they wouldnt have bothered looking otherwise.

Steam is huge, it's like Youtube with 1000's of videos every minute being uploaded. If Steam bans someone, it's easy as pie for them to make a new account and get around it again without them being noticed until someone complains and starts to shine a spotlight on them. That will never change unless they hire 1000's of people to look for stuff like this, like how Facebook deals with it.

I know, point being it would change/wouldnt have happened in the first place if they had any form of quality control. Lets not forget people are parting with money, its a storefront not a free service.

?

Do you guys really think Steam have no knowledge of what's being uploaded to their store on a daily basis?

There were 55 new releases on steam today alone. Do you really think they know or care about the quality or content? A fair few popular youtubers have already covered this.

I mean as much as I'm looking forward to Hero Hunters - Jurassic Shooting Sniper (https://store.steampowered.com/app/869540/Hero_Hunters__Jurassic_Shooting_Sniper/) Releasing on June 21st I am slightly dubious that I might not get my moneys worth.

But at least Trash Story doesnt lie to you for your 79p (https://store.steampowered.com/app/827640/Trash_Story/)

In 2017, 7126 new games was added to Steam. That's 593 games per month and 148 games per week, about.

In May this month alone, 768 was added.

Valve's organisation structure isn't ridged, it's fluid with members moving around to different teams whenever they want and doing whatever they want, as long the job is getting done, this is one of the reasons why people say that the customer service at Valve is really bad, because they don't have a customer service, it's staffed by them all, whenever they feel like answering some emails.

So, since they got no dedicated teams or jobs, you can understand how easy it is to add games to Steam without anyone there noticing because clearly they just not looking and if they looked, they might glanced at it's name and that's it, it's down to the whims of whoever is feeling like doing anything.

There is a "elitism" around Steam, I feel people feel that Steam should be reserved for AAA games only, but the reality is that it's a store front and Steam wants your money.

I personally, don't care about the trash games, I wouldn't even had known about this Active Shooter game if SJW's didn't complain about it, I don't have a problem with it too, even if it's in bad taste. pixels on a screen like fiction in books, don't offend me.

That said, am offended by Valve's and peoples hypocrisy as they get offended by games like this, but have 5000 hours in GTA or some other game.

The problem is that in GTA you dont have to run over strippers, you can choose to, the main point of the game is to play the story and some other minor stuff.

Having the main feature of a game to simulate a school shooter? Nah, that's too much edge.

The problem with all the trash games is that they obscure the smaller games which are actually good.

If Steam took more of a curator role, as they did in the earlier days, this could be mitigated. The steam curators system is of limited use as it's mostly just individual YT-ers or Twitchers, and there's a limit to how many games they can play.

What I do know is that it doesn't require an army of analysts to look a list of 50+ games per day and decide which was are hateful and repugnant. And no of course they don't care, I just said they're not lazy and that they're just letting it blow up in the media for the free publicity.
