I've just reinstalled my brothers pc, and when he tries to play some Games (Halo and BF2142) they run really quickly, It's not a graphics problem as I've tried several different versions. I've updates CPU driver and Motherboard BIOS. The Spec of his system is

Abit NF-M2S
AMD 3400 X2 AM2
And Nvidia 7600gt

I'm really not sure whats happening, tried the dual core optimizer and all the hotfixes and nothing seems to fix it. :(

on a serious note, it is the cpu. to test this, enable a single core manually in task manager by setting affinity to 1 core only. and that will do the trick

tried that doesn't work either
loaded halo went to the halo process, set it to core0 went back in, still the same, set it as core 1 and still the same...

It's starting to annoy me now

this was deffo happening to me when i went to dual core, the best way to do it is to remove the dual core optimiser and mahe sure in your boot ini file has the /usepmtimer command in it, that comand is put in there automatically when you install the dual core driver from amd site.

toca race drive 3 did this to me and was unplayable cuz it ran too fast.

my mates 3800 X2 did that all the time, only we couldnt really fix it in the NFSUG2 and so on series, later we figured out you have to set the affinity by patching the game exe itself, or if you do it whilst the FMV's are playing.

On my own 4400 X2, All I did was install the MS hotfix and the dual core optimizer and I didn't need to do it again; Every time I installed it on the mates computer it just BSOD'd requiring a fresh copy of windows....

I don't have those two games (I do have BF2 though) Install..

AMD Dual Core CPU driver.
MS hotfix, WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-ENU.exe

Do not install the optimizer, I've found it slows my PC down.

When I say run to quick I mean 3 - 4 times faster than the game should run. Dialogue and sounds overlap and even cut out before finishing.

Try setting the power profile to 'Always On', should stop the CPU from changing frequency which can mess up some games. And be sure to turn VSync off, in order to keep the CPU under as high a load as possible.

UT is notoriously bad for this, as it sets the game speed according to the CPU clock speed when you run it. Try what I said earlier, as well as setting the affinity to a single core and (specifically for UT) run it with the -cpuspeed=X parameter (where X is your CPU frequency in MHz).

The server game speed is as normal, but the clientside movement prediction is way off so objects start jumping way ahead of their actual position.

What happens when you try to play it online / multiplayer?

HE OWNS!
hah but seriously, I get that when I try to record vids on halo with hypercam
Try and set vsync on like that other guy said.
If not you could try reinstalling it or something like that.
Im not sure what that would do really,

*gosh i sound like tech support..."Have you tried restarting?"*
