Games that benefit from using a DirectX 11 GPU ???

Only problem with direct x 11 is that its a faster version of 10, just with a few new things added in like tesselation (which could be done by hardware on dx8 cards although ATI only).

I heard Windows 7 was just a faster version of Windows XP also.

It's beneficial to large AAA titles to have direct x 11 simply for the TV and internet advert footage as "joe public" would naturally think its some sort of new film and then read PC INGAME FOOTAGE under it and go out and buy it on their console etc expecting the same lol.

A similar thing was doing with crysis 2 for example, even though at the time it didn't have dx11 implementation. Only problem with direct x 11 is that its a faster version of 10, just with a few new things added in like tesselation (which could be done by hardware on dx8 cards although ATI only). Because dx10 was so damn slow, not many publishers really used it and most users still used dx9 because you couldn't really tell the difference for the massive frame rate hit.

The next direct x version needs to be very quick and bring some really nice new effects to the table which are very noticable and not subtle like dx11 (for the most part)

Fascinating:cool:

Is DX10 slow because of the way it has been designed and implemented?

I agree that going from DX9 > Dx10 > DX11 is more of a incremental increase in performance overall than something totally revolutionary. Kind a like going from Intel core 2 > Nehalem > SB (1155)

You can go down the tongue-in-cheek line of responces if you wish, but I'm still right either way :P

I'm quite happy to discuss it not tongue in cheek if you like, just didn't think the general populace here cared too much at the throughput of differing triangle mesh formats in a variety of DX API's, which kind of surface was optimal and what the most efficient way is to apply a shader depending on the precision available. While we're at it, we can discuss some fundamentals like Binary Space Partitions. It will be fun!

Dirt2

As for DX9>DX10>DX11 I know that the primary benefit of DX10 was supposed to be speed rather than an improvement in graphical quality. Some people seem to think that DX10/11 games should look a lot better than DX9, that DX9 is kinda old and outdated, but the reality is a well developed DX9 game with good art design will still look top notch.

I have a DX11 card (GTX470) but I bought it mainly for good performance in DX9 games.

Consoles mostly use DX9 level hardware, so until new consoles hit it's going to be rare.

This. Expect only some PC exclusive titles to use DX11 or Consoles developers who have a soft spot for the PC and are willing to put in a little extra work.

Actually, when more than 1 in 3 PC users is still DX9 only and barely 1 in 20 is DX11 capable*, it's pretty clear the blame doesn't exactly just lie with consoles.

Developers are pandering to their biggest markets. If 1 in 50 end users that play their game is going to use DX11, why pour effort into that over another feature that everyone could benefit from?

Crysis 2 for sure.

before the ultra texture pack and dx11 update I was getting ASS performance with semi high settings at 1920x1200 but now I get 40+ FPS using EXTREME settings. Looks amazing now too even though plants are blocky.
