Games(tm) issue 64 review score thread (spoiler: SCORES)

I can't really understand the low score for Assassins Creed, I think it's excellent and it offers animation and graphics not yet seen in games as well as an interesting take on a story and delivery.
Whilst it may be repetative, it's no more so than many other games, so it's disappointing to see such a score.

When they gave Pro Evo a low score they were the best reviewers in the land according to you, now they disappoint you :p

I like honesty and not following the masses like sheep with reviews. Whilst I appreciate their honesty in the review and respect them having their own opinion I am surprised because it does offer some very big positives as well as being an IP.

Ah well it ain't put me off getting the game, looks lovely to me :) just a shame its come at the time of an avalanche of great games, but its something I will pick up in the new year for sure.

Fortunately it's come at the end of the games rush for me, other than Mass Effect, Kane and Lynch and then Uncharted in 2 weeks, that's pretty much it for me, though it's been constant games for me on the Xbox360 for around 2-3 months now, frightning really!

I didn't buy Assassins Creed as my friend did, but I really enjoyed what I did play. Graphically I think it's the best game out there and animation wise, as I mentioned, I feel it's a revolution and the benchmark for everything else now.

Assassins Creed and Kane and Lynch deserve better in my opinion... COD4 is definatly a 9-10 in my opinion also :p

I'd say COD is an 8. I think if I hadn't have played it on Vet then I wouldn't have noticed the re-spawn issues and would've enjoyed it more. The MP is good fun but brings nothing new to the table from any other side step shooter.

Even the Perk system is straight out of star wars battlefront.

Graphication and animation can only get you so many points. If the game looked amazing, but it was a game about sweeping floors then you can't expect it to get 10/10.

Assassin's Creed is boring.
The climbing and free-running is boring. You press a button and press a direction. It's hardly innovative. I've seen it done in Spiderman on the Wii.
Fighting the AI is boring. Its too easy. Sure you can let yourself accumulate around you to give you a little bit of a challenge, but then the same move kills them all.
Riding the horse is boring. Wow, it's a horse. You can't even crash it or damage it (think losing a leg and losing performance or something). The jumping is automatic, there's no skill to it.
Even walking around the city is boring. What is there to do? Climb atop the tallest building and jump off? Find a bunch of flags? Kill more easy people? The missions are all the same and not even that fun.

I'm finding the game a bit of a chore, to be frank. I'm glad I got it for free and I have a few issues of FHM to look forward to. You can't beat a bit of titty.

Shouldnt movement up and over obstacles be fluid and easy to perform? For the most part AC is a rare example of well tested, planned and executed design(visual, sound and environment interaction wise). I cant comment on the combat and missions as i havent played enough of it yet.

AC is also a fine example of what the next gen consoles can pull off, all we need now is someone to do a full on RPG version to add more depth :)

As for COD4 i would give that a 10/10 as it excells in all departments. From graphics, sound and gameplay(sp and mp) to drama and spectacle. Loved it. A game doesnt have to be original to be a good game, just done well and fun. Nokkon mate you should really try the SP.

I'm surprised about the score for AC, given that I was just about to do a blog post stating that AC and Mass Effect is the best £80 I've spent on my 360 since I purchased Kameo & Condemned back during it's launch.

AC was a superb title imo, and the so called repetitive bits are probably because no one bothered tackling them from different angles, and did nothing but counter-attacks during fight moments. I didn't find the game boring at all.

Mass Effect ~ 9/10 ~ Brilliant, and this is only the beginning - agree
COD4 ~ 8/10 ~ Fantastically exciting, but not hugely original - I'd give it a 9, online is ace
GHIII ~ 8/10 ~ Still rocking on - maybe a 7, GH2 is far superior
Kane & Lynch: Dead men ~ 6/10 ~ Consistently entertaining until it's final third - agree
Crysis ~ 9/10 ~ Upgrade your PC for this one (PC but I thought I'd add it) - not played
Need for Speed: Pro Street ~ 7/10 ~ The fun remains - not played
The Simpsons game ~ 4/10 ~ Very funny, but not very funny - not played
Assassin's Creed ~ 4/10 ~ Dull, contrived and disappointing - Harsh, but the game is poor. I'd give it a 6.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games ~ 8/10 ~ The best sonic game in ages, Mario's seen better - agree, a great party game :D
Scene it ~ 6/10 ~ Solid - Hate this type of game so can't judge.

When the whole gimmick about AC was the parkour, surely you need to expect it to be harder than it is. Surely there should be some level of competency regarding your climbing. Maybe they could have had it that better people could climb up walls faster. I don't know. It's the same with the free running; there's no skill to it. Graphics are all well and fine, but if it's boring then what's the point?

I have tried it briefly, I've completed the ship and Nikolai missions, but I couldn't use HDMI and Optical at the same time because I didn't get an Elite, thankfully Neoni loaned me his adapter from the Elite until further notice so I can use HDMI and Optical (5.1 sound) at the same time, so I can continue. I was previously playing on a Yamaha YSP-1100 SoundBar which was awesome, but I refused to go to 2.0 stereo to play it, so I bided my time :).

I'll get back to it today or tomorrow :).

More so than Smackdown vs Raw 2007?

I see your point, but climbing can quickly get frustrating if your trying to escape guards throwing rocks and archers and you kept falling to your death every 30 seconds because you miss or cannot see your next handhold.
