I've been addicted to the remastered Bioshock on XBone recently, I honestly don't see the need for shinier and more realistic, just make games fun.

Thread inspired by the quote above; I'm going to buy the remastered collection and work my way through them.

Are there any other suggestions for games that have gameplay prioritised over visuals? They can still look pretty without crushing hardware.

I would offer Portal 2 as a game I thoroughly enjoyed without the need for glossy graphics.

Considering that new hardware is beyond the budget of most people now, I thought it could be worth collating a list, if possible :)

Yakuza 0 is based on a PS3 engine and loads of fun once you get into it.

Dishonored is very good.

Would've recommended Bioshock trilogy myself:p

Nier Automata has "bad" graphics by modern standards and is still one of the best and most unique things I've played. Not sure if I can recommend the PC port, it's not very good and too demanding, ran well for me with FAR Mod but YMMV.

Bayonetta and Vanquish are on PC now.

Now my favourite trio this year until Yakuza Kiwami 2 lands and it becomes a quartet:p

DMCV, Sekiro and RE2 are all great games with great graphics and also run very well on moderate specs. But definitely more focus on gameplay with those three:D

Factorio (sorry in advance for the loss of the next few months of your life)

Superhot maybe? Pretty short, but interesting gameplay and the art style is sleek and modern but I wouldn't say demanding

For sim racing (apart from iRacing) Automobilista. The graphics are not great (presonally as a SimBin fan I don't mind) but the driving model :)

Pretty old but great gameplay - The original Deus Ex

One problem gameplay wise it is quite tedious if you don't take advantages of some of the glitches so as to store extra stuff in the inventory and misuse the inventory so as to only use one multi-tool/lockpick to open/hack stuff or otherwise it is very tedious. It is also much better if you use a mod that tweaks the usability of powers, etc.

I'd love a remastered version of that game that took the spirit of the original game, reimplemented it with some of the original vision and areas that never made it to the original (Mexican frontier, Moonbase, etc.), improved the interface and mechanics while still keeping them simple and accessible but kept the original story, etc. for instance the first levels of the game is supposed to be in a city in the midst of widespread quarantines, curfews and so on with roadblocks, etc. a bit like The Division but it isn't portrayed very well.

If you play Deus Ex, try something like the GMDX mod. It makes combat for one, much better. Another alternative is the 'Revision' mod. Loads of others listed on Moddb.
