According to wikipdia, it was because it was their most profitable.

I even had no idea they actually OWNED White Dwarf. Its like a giant propaganda machine! :)
I remember when White Dwarf was more about Dungeons & Dragons and it was literally nothing like it is today. There were new monsters every week, adventure ideas and great articles. Ahhh, those were the days.

It was a great magazine - and edited by Ian Livingstone who, together with Steve Jackson, took away many hours of my teenage life while I battled through Firetop Mountain and entered the labyrinth known as Deathtrap Dungeon - and so many others (I still have most of them in storage..... can't remember the one where you were a thief - that one rocked!).

...and even worse, the Lone Wolf series - I still have the first 15 of those - gotta have the Sommerswerd though! They're all available online :) I'm such a nerd sometimes :(

When I ran my club ( years 7-9 )

Because of my status with the school a lot of the "popular" girls would come in to talk to me, and in turn would talk to some of the "geeky" lads that populated the room.

Not only did I get to paint, Talk to my people, I was also like a pimp.
Brilliant fun.

I also popped into the shop over Christmas, ( little brother is 11 and has got the idea into his head that he wants to start playing ) for an old timer not played the game in many many years I thought the staff were bloody brilliant. really helpful and offering to let him come in (despite his age) and play games with them and with different armies to see which he liked the most.

oh and White dwarf went down hill, but I only ever used it for painting reference.

Used to paint the Space Marines and the Judge Dredd figures, but never played.
RPG wise, used to play Call of Cthulhu.

Gawd, i feel old now :(

i used to play warhammer 40k when i was about 12, donated all my armies last year to someone online

MW

At school I played Warhammer Fantasy Battle and then W40K when that was released (1987) and we also did Warhammer Fatnasy Roleplay too.

Used to play 40k. I collected Space Marines, Orks and Imperial Guard. I keep getting urges to buy some more because I enjoyed painting them up so much.

I had quite a few.

Found out about and got into Games Workshop via Hero Quest. Which was amazing fun to play with 4/5 mates. Started GW in Fantasy - Orks and Goblins, went onto Chaos. Didnt really play just painted for the fun really.

Went onto Necromunda and had Orlocks and Cawdor. Played this loads against my bros Goliath and Spyre Hunter gangs.

Also had and played Space Hulk (loving the terminators!) and Warhammer Quest, I still have my Noble, Chaos Warrior and Pit Fighter from warhammer quest on my shelf cause they developed into awesome characters and I painted them well.

Sadly all my Warhammer stuff is still in my mums loft!! Massive piles of it!

PS. Nice pics Vincent

I went in this shop a few months back to laugh at the people inside, the store assistant guy was trying to get me to play XD

Didn't realise I was only in there for the laughz.. :D

I am not sure if I have ever been bored enough to go and find people to laugh at. You need more hobbies, have you thought about wargaming? :D

Haven't actually played any GW games for a long time.
I used to work for the company - was assistant manager at the Cambridge branch and was actually offered the opportunity to move to another branch where I'd be manager after 6 months.
However I decided to go back to college and get more qualifications instead.

As I worked for the company (company discount) and also had the ability to go to head office to buy figures (where we could buy by weight, not by blister pack) I had armies for all the games:

Dark Elf - WH FB
Marines - WH 40k
Marines/Imperial - Space Marine
Chaos - Blood Bowl

Those were my main armies, I had numerous others - mainly because we could buy the figures so cheaply.

It was good fun at the time.
