Games you feel everyone should play

Far too many to list, but the most recent - Mafia 3...

I gave this one a miss when it came out, it was [for me] far too much of a deviation from the series I loved. Having spent countless hours on the first on PC, then one play through of the second on 360 (might see if I can b/c it on the Xbone), I really disliked the fact that the game had been changed from a Mafia game, to a revenge-on-the-mafia game, so wrote it off.

Recently downloaded the demo, gave it a few minutes, then decided to grab a copy second hand - it's easily the best £9 I have spent for a while! It's completely turned me off of FarCry 5!!

Despite the main character not being in the mafia, so not (imo) a Mafia game, it has a lot of the hallmarks of what made it's predecessors great, and really had captured me - the graphics are good, gameplay enjoyable, and headshots are pretty brutal!

After your 'review', I picked up Mafia 3 for 8 quid. I'll hold you responsible if it isn't good! ;)

I don't know if there are many I'd put in such a list. Taste in games is somewhat personal - some of the recommendations here are games I've given up with after just a couple or few hours with as I just found them really boring (looking at you Dead Island, Half Life, Borderlands), others I've gritted my teeth and got through despite not being much into them (such as Mass Effect).

And at the same time, my favourite games might be somewhat 'niche' and not appealing for everyone.

That said, Portal is just essential for anyone. Great shout.

A lot of my fave games are pretty standard amongst the gaming community so I wont bore you with my seen before list but one that does spring to mind that I don't see mentioned too much is Trine 2. Such a charming little puzzle platformer and I'd recommend anyone play it :)

Trine 2 is a stunningly beautiful game, and was the first game I played with my son, when he was 4 or 5. But, to be honest, I didn't much like it. I like tougher, tighter platformers, I think - T2 was a bit 'loose', with many of the puzzles mostly able to be bodged with a lot of boxes.

Was still beautiful, though. Worth a play just for that.

I'd say thats fair. Nowadays I'm too impatient to enjoy big challenges which is probably why I enjoyed it so much!

IMO, it's better than FarCry 5, which I've not touched since getting Mafia 3. Hopefully you'll like it, for 8 quid though, you can't really lose :D

Hard to list every game I think people should play from all gens as it would take too long :p

From this generation though;

- TLOU remastered
- Bloodborne
- Uncharted 4

Is RDR worth playing now or has it aged badly?

If you've got an Xbox One X it's had a 4K patch and looks very good. Still a great game either way.

Pretty much! As I am after something easy to just waste a bit of time on I've got it on easy with autoaim on high. The enemies do appear out of nowhere sometimes though but for 8 quid.....!

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons

Finished this in one sitting last night and it's a little gem, loved the environments and whilst the puzzles were fairly simple I got totally sucked by some fantastic touches. The story went in a direction I really didn't expect as well. Worth 3-4 hours of anyone's time :)

Little detail I noticed last night, after dropping off a stolen lorry - you can hear the hot engine metal 'pinking' noises, as it's cooling down.

I've never played Dark Souls, I have been looking at the remastered edition? Is it worth playing?

I have played Bloodborne... I could not get on with that game though and ended up throwing the disc out of the window

This gen - The Last of Us remake, Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey are essentials. There's loads of other good stuff, but they're the games that made me sit back and think wow.

Most older games you had to be there at the time.

Just finished Life is Strange: Before the Storm and it was just as good as the original game. If you've put off either game then they're both on sale at the moment on Xbox and well worth the asking price.
