Rght, build i done for my mate a few years ago while at uni the psu has popped.

he was running x2 3800 dual core jobbie, 2gb ram with a x950 256mb card.

Not been in the pc loop since i built this for him which was a donkeys age ago!

Basically, he will take his HD's and thats it from his base unit, obviously monitors, speakers, mouse etc is all guna stay th same so just need a base unit!

What would you guys reccomend for £750 - £1k? Trying to convince him to squeeze in a 24" haha but would be cool to see what he can build for this kind of money these days before that

Cheers

how does that look? will happily drop the mobo to the £90 model if i cant see any decent benefits for him.

Will the gfx card be much cop if he decided to get a 24" monitor?

I need to add a case on, then if he decides against a better monitor (he runs a 19" viewsonic" atm), ill spread the cash if he wants to improve other things.

Will look at a better cooler also, any good? yay or nay

don't get the q6600 especially that one, dual core cpu is faster clock for clock well the wolfdales are anyway get the 8400 or 8500 no games apart from supreme commander maybe one or two others benefit from quad core most people are dumping their q6600's for 8400/8500/8600
also check to see if you really need the extra features of the deluxe ? surely the pro is good enough

unsure about the psu, any suggestions?

way i figured, if he fancies overclocking later he can add a aftermarket cooler, and have decent ram, mobo and cpu already :)

is the 280 faster than the 4870 tho? he wants this pc to last a while, so figured extra £70 on a faster card be worthwhile

is crysis still the most demanding game? will he be able to run that at pretty high everything on a 24" screen with either of those cards?
