Hi there, was advised that this was the place to be to ask about builds and get great advice. I have been out of the 'loop' on gaming for some time, my pc that I use to game on had a p4 with a agp card lol. I currently use a laptop for the odd bit such as league of legends but in low quality. I am looking at playing more games such as crysis, battlefield etc as I am sick of using controllers to aim with.

As title says my budget is limited to £550 and no more. However I would probably buy a ssd at some point nearer Xmas. Not sure on the whole intel/amd thing or ati/GeForce. Advice and builds will be greatly appreciated.

Parts wise all I have is a 3d monitor, hard drive and cdrw that can be reused (power supply is knackered)

Again thanks

I have a keyboard mouse and os, would I be better off saving a bit on the ram? And going for a lower speed and spend a bit more to get a intel k processor?

The 6300 is a good CPU, but Haswell benifits from faster RAM. You'll also get a more overall responsive and efficient system. The k version would be a good choice, but on your budget, it would be one or the other.

I would personally stick with the RAM and then look to upgrade the CPU when Intel release their next chip, Broadwell.

is the a future in this socket? I dont want to shell out on something that locks me into something I cannot later upgrade. I had this problem with my old pc, pcie and newer intel socket came out around 4/5 months later meaning I needed new everything

There is always something better or newer coming out, just depends on how often you want to upgrade. There are 2 new AMD FX Cpus due, which you could upgrade to if you feel you need to, in the future.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (5.00GHz Turbo) (Socket AM3+) Processor - OEM £279.95
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9370 Black Edition 4.40GHz (4.70GHz Turbo) (Socket AM3+) Processor - OEM £179.99
Total : £469.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

You don`t have to upgrade just because something new comes out. Some people are still using an i7 920, which has been succeeded by SB, IB and now Haswell. I think any decent system should last you at least 3 years without having to upgrade, see my sig. I`ve had this 2 years but upgraded the Cpu 2500K>3770K(swap+cash), which was a good deal and gave me better performance with my sli 560ti in some games.

Thanks for your help, I will probably go the amd route, is there any plans for amd to discontinue this socket or will they use it for there next release of processors?

Not a 100% sure. You could open a tread in the Cpu or Motherboard section, someone in there may be better able to answer that.
