Gaming burnout?

I think I may have gaming burnout or something. I just cannot find anything which is really grabbing me.

I have hundreds of games, have played hundreds more but it seems each new game I play only grabs me for a day or two before I just lose interest in playing it. I play all sorts of genres so its not that I am bored of a particular genre, its just that so many games just seem so average to me these days. Now admittedly , I've been gaming for 30+ years but the last 6 months has really felt like just one average game after another. I do play the occasional game which I enjoy (Rise of Tomb Raider for instance), but then I will play something else like Assassin Creed Black Flag and find that after a few hours of play I have lost any desire to continue and find it all very meh.

I keep scouring Steam for games (even though it seems to consist of thousands of cheap indie/anime titles these days) and I scour CDKey sites each day to see if anything grabs my interest but everything simply seems so (and I dont know any other word to use to describe this) meh.

Are we in a period where 1 in a 100 games is a real belter or has my interest in gaming finally waned?

I got like that a few years ago and the sad thing is it never went away :( doesn't stop me from wasting money trying to find the one new game to re find the spark though :D

I was in the same boat as you once , I am now 33 and don't play games as much as I did , Have a week break and trust me you will want to get back and game asap , a few ways to make gaming more fun is join a clan or join the OC uk Voice chat channels and game with others its a whole new ball game and a lot of fun , I've been playing Rainbowsix loads since release and its mainly down to the fact you can talk to people on a mic and help them out , A few games have stopped voice chat in games witch to me is madness.

unravel looks very interesting and might spark your interest :) I feel the same from time to time and just have a break

Yeah I looked at Unravel recently and thought it looked good, then I read several reviews that said it quickly became boring, which put me off.

However, I have literally just this minute watched a video of Dont Starve Together and that looks quite interesting and different from the normal stuff I play. Seems to have good feedback so might give it a try

When I felt I was getting tired of the usual stuff, I bought a used PS3 (the fat one) and World Tour controller. Add about 10 Guitar Heros ane Rockbands to the mix :D Terraria is always fun for me personally, best spent £7 ever, 400hr between missus and me and counting.

Same as the op, sort of. Hundreds of games, a lot of the new top titles, but I always seem to end up playing those flash games on sites like kongregate.

what i do is find something i normally wouldnt play.

so i mainly play fps racing games. so if im not feeling those kinda games i might try a mmo for a while or something else.

as you are not familiar with the mechanics it can spark a different kind of interest/fun.

the biggest fun is being on voice coms with people playing the same games.then even the most broken mediocre games can be hilarious :D

there are plenty of groups here with teamspeaks and such try jumping on with some. if you dont already.

Getting older is definitely a major factor, I don't know whether character control is getting to complicated or I just can't be bothered learning to play. I seem to stick with: source and virtual pool 4

For me it's age. I require more from games now than I did 10 years ago.

That's definitely a factor and the majority of games have become more content light and less complex with less depth.
Can't help but pine for the days when games weren't built for people who shouldn't be allowed out with a pair of idiot mittens and half of the content you'd expect will then be drip fed to you in a season pass that costs as much as the base game.

I had this a while back. The cure for me was to limit my options. When there are so many games out there, it is hard to find one that you feel like playing.

A couple years ago I posted a thread where I listed a bunch of games that I had bought but not played, or only played a few minutes of and asked for a vote on which ones I should play. I then committed to playing it through to the end, with only one MP game for when I felt like a break. I ended up being told to play saints row 3 which was a blast.

Sometimes I find that having the option of playing something else makes it hard to stick out a game that I would have otherwise enjoyed. Might work for you, might not. Maybe post a list of games you own that you only played a very short amount of or not at all, and ask which one is most worth playing. Worked for me anyway!

Otherwise, as others have said, take a break or find a group of people to play with. Payday 2 and rainbow six siege are both excellent with a good crew

It can also be affected by life changes. For example, I love strategy games, but in recent times I've got to the stage in my career where my mind is drained by the end of the day and so the last thing I have mental capacity for in the evening is a few hours of a game that requires more thinking. I guess my point is that you should look at whether it is the result of certain aspects of your lifestyle that this has happened.
