Gaming burnout?

I barely play games, still buy em if in sales tho lol. Dunno why. I expect its cos i imagine ill get back into it at some point then its bought cheap and rdy to play.

Damn that tv in living room with xbmc for it lol. All them films and anime and tv shows when i want em anytime i want hehe.

I tend to only play multiplayer games, just find the thrill of playing against people is more fun than playing a linear story game or a single player sandbox game.

Take a few months off gaming, then when you come back youll be itching to try all teh new games, ive done it a few times in the past. I dont work with computers so its quite easy for me to get away from them but i guess its harder if ya having to be on them day to day getting emails about new games/hardware etc.

Its because games are just less interesting these days, developers are taking less chances so the same tropes are released year on year.

New COD game
New BF game
New Fifa
New Ass Creed

Blah blah you get the picture. Also there's fewer games with genuinely fresh ideas, less wacky games being made by big publishers.

A exception is games like Mirrors Edge but these are increasingly few and far between.

You could try playing indie games but then you have low production values but if you don't mind ugly or not quite fully functional games then they can be great. They tend to be expensive to buy seperately so a good idea is to buy from places like humble bundle which frequently have recently released indie game bundles at a low price.

Hope that helps.

I get a bit like that from time to time, burn out on games really easy, get so far into it and get bored... I think it's modern society more than anything, we're never satisfied

I was a bit like that until the Witcher 3. Pretty much all I've played for the last few months.

Doesn't help that growing older, getting married, having kids, a full time job etc etc really limits available gaming time.

Are we in a period where 1 in a 100 games is a real belter or has my interest in gaming finally waned?

More like 1 in a 10000 and it's always been like that.
Probably only take hands and feet to count how many good games there's been in the last 20 years. It's just a matter of finding that one a hay bale you like.

I feel kind of the same way. There are only 3 games that I am really looking forward to at the moment. 2 are due out this year and 1 is due out next year. Other than that I probably won't do much gaming at all until then other than maybe playing Dishonoured again because it is such a good game.

I've certainly stopped playing games for hours on end for the moment. Maybe when Pantheon releases that'll change but until then I'll just stay being a semi-casual gamer.

I wish there was a new GTA game every year as I always play them for the story and side missions. But if we got one every year maybe it wouldn't be as good as a multi year developed game.

I think I may have gaming burnout or something. I just cannot find anything which is really grabbing me.

I have hundreds of games, have played hundreds more but it seems each new game I play only grabs me for a day or two before I just lose interest in playing it. I play all sorts of genres so its not that I am bored of a particular genre, its just that so many games just seem so average to me these days. Now admittedly , I've been gaming for 30+ years but the last 6 months has really felt like just one average game after another. I do play the occasional game which I enjoy (Rise of Tomb Raider for instance), but then I will play something else like Assassin Creed Black Flag and find that after a few hours of play I have lost any desire to continue and find it all very meh.

I keep scouring Steam for games (even though it seems to consist of thousands of cheap indie/anime titles these days) and I scour CDKey sites each day to see if anything grabs my interest but everything simply seems so (and I dont know any other word to use to describe this) meh.

If it is not only games you feel this way about, then it could be your health.

a lot of games are generic not really new just polished rehashes. A genuinely gripping storyline goes a long way but gameplay innovation is pretty rare in any game, it might be two or three a year possibly that are unique.
ie. you have literally played them all before new or not. The game companies put a lot of money on the line in production, trying new stuff is more risk and usually little reward. Try buying Indie games instead as they will be more apt to push into new ground

I often get like that but every now and then I just get back into it and nothing other than a particular game grabs me. Not many and being closer to 50, it is harder to keep my attention span but a break now and then helps.

I had a similar thing a while ago. TF2 was the only game I'd fire up and play as I found most other games I'd only play for about 30 minutes then give up and never go back to it.

For me it meant going retro-style. I bought Hammerwatch, Volgarr The Viking and Shovel Knight. I found more enjoyment in those than I had in any game for a long time. Along with playing Simulation-type games (Euro Truck, Farming Sim, Cities Skylines) when I want a more relaxed gaming session, I've got more interest in games now than I have had for a long time.

That's true for me. I don't want to play Assassins Creed 17, Ubisoft the game 36 or CoD 73 ultimate advanced super-dooper master sergeant of all the shooty things.

Survival games, MOBAs, MMOs, CCGs they're all not my thing yet those seem to be the market of late.

I feel pretty bored of the recent supposedly AAA titles too, I'm not as enthused about gaming at the moment plus I don't really want to waste my money on trash.

I've been burnt on a couple of early access games but generally indie/smaller games keep my attention for a while.

I probably need to take a break from it all really.

I found getting an android box and kodi installed fantastic. Spent most of my time watching boxsets of good TV shows, little time for gaming. After about 10days I was raring to go with gaming again, Fallout 4 in particular(massive Fallout fan).

I'm the sort that can only get into a game properly by spending long continuous sessions playing it, I can't just dip in and out of games for an hour at a time, and seeing as that's about all I can manage before being too tired then I just don't bother much.

It's definitely age related I think, but yes games are less interesting these days I think, too much time spent on cut scenes and story without much input into actually developing an interesting game to play.
