i7 or i5? tis the question

as you can see its getting long in the tooth and i am wanting an upgrade for gaming purposes, mainly need some help with the cpu, motherboard and memory, i also have a cooler master hyper 212 plus, can this be used with updated motherboards? if so i will probably keep and use that and obviously the ssd and mechanical hdd and power supply, thanks in advance

i7 or i5? tis the question

Do you have a budget in mind for the parts?

If your heatsink has fitting for socket 1155 or 1156 then it will fit the new socket 1150 motherboards.

Just a quick thought what would you advise be on the AMD FX-8350 gaming system instead of i5-3570K

i will go i5 as i dnt have the extra cash for i7 and i cant see me really stressing it i would like to overclock the i5 to at least 4ghz - 4.5, budget for cpu and mobo will be about 260 - 270, i will have to check my hyper 212 plus, it only came with 1 fitting so maybe some one who has 1 can help me out on that question, thanks guys

got this info from the cooler master site so thats more money saved :) Versatile all-in-one mounting solution for Intel Socket LGA1366/1156/1155/775

i may spend a little more on the motherboard as i really want to squeeze all the juice out the cpu, some i found are below if you could help me decide that would be fantastic:

Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77X-UD3H Motherboard
Asus P8Z77-V LK Motherboard
AsRock Z77 OC Formula Motherboard
AsRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard
AsRock Z77 Extreme6
Asus P8Z77-V PRO Motherboard

any recommendations for memory also guys

Newer tech.

Your CPU cooler will fit the board.

im going to stick with ivy as its a tad cheaper and i want be upgrading for quite along time anyway, can u recommend a higher priced motherboard better for overclocking, is the AsRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard any good or will the Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 be ample?
i heard that some memory is incompatible with that as rock board, may have been sorted with a bios update anyway

The GA Z77-D3H is an excellent motherboard, check out some of the online reviews for it. When overclocking chances are you will hit the thermal or voltage limit of the 3570K before the motherboard.

Why? The multi-threading performance gain with the i7 will simply not matter with a gaming machine. The i7 is a fine CPU no doubt, but unless the hyper-threading is needed, save your cash.

well more and more games are becoming more and more multi threaded these days. i chose an i7 thats all

hi guys, i ended up getting GA-Z87X-UD4H and Intel Core i5 4670K so hopefully it will keep me going for a while longer :) i just need some ram now, can you guys recommend me some, thanks, cant wait to get building this thing now
ill be getting a graphics card a tad further down the line as im skint at the mo haha

If you want to keep costs down go for the Crucial Ballistix RAM.
For better performance go for the Teamgroup RAM, but the tall heat-spreaders may conflict with the cooler.
The Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" is quick and should fit under the cooler.

just received all my stuff, just curious if motherboards are meant to come with screws or stand off's nowadys or is it the norm for them not to be included and do brand new motherboard come in properly sealed in the mobo box or all ready opened ''that normal'' ie, not taped at sides or front, just wondering if i got a return :/
