Gaming CPU

Depends how much "bang" you have. And which GPU.

But those fx-8320s give you a lot of CPU for the price

Yes they look good for the price, 8 core too. My Brother is looking for a nice gaming build that won't cost him a lot of money. Thanks for the reply ;)

i5 2500 is pretty damned cheap to build and just chuck in a 800w cpu and a 7990 off ebay.........overclock the whole lot and you'll fly

I'd probably say the above Intel Core i5-4690K 3.50GHz (Devil's Canyon) @ £170 but I guess bang per buck depends on what you're using it for and how much you want to spend.

It's not the cheapest CPU out there but to me it justifies the price given the additional performance on tap especially when overclocked. If you check out the gaming benchmarks it's on a par with even the most powerful chips on the market.

If it was me, I'd go 8320 without doubt.
Great price, 8 core, Mantle to make raw CPU speed less important.

At £100 how could you really go Intel instead if benchmarks aren't what's important?

Have AMD dropped the prices yet? I read that on September 1st AMD are also bringing out 3 CPU's as well?

AMD set to slash FX CPU pricing on September 1

Said FX-9590, currently retailing at £225, will drop to around £175 on September 1, thereby competing against the Core i5-4690K. AMD says the FX 9590's greater multi-core ability will give it a clear and obvious lead for power users.

AMD will introduce three new FX 8-series CPUs at the same time, with two running at 95W, while the price of the popular FX-6300 is to drop from £80 to around £70.

The prices have dropped a little yes. 8320 was hovering around £110, now it's under £100.

I would expect £80 by the end of the year tbh.

I wonder what the difference between the 8370 and the 8370E is... Same clock speeds with lower TDP? Implying that it uses lower voltages? Would be good for overlocking in that case :D

It'll be hard to tell, they might have simply dropped the stock voltage (they were far too conservative with it) and/or the turbo settings throttle more aggressively.

I don't see how they'd be inherently better chips, at least compared with ones manufactured recently.

AMD FX-8370 and FX-8370E to Launch on 2nd September 2014

AMD is planning to launch its next performance-segment CPUs alongside its Radeon R9 285 graphics card; the FX-8370 and its energy-efficient variant, the FX-8370E.

Based on the 32 nm "Vishera" silicon, the FX-8370 is an eight-core socket AM3+ processor, featuring out of the box clock speeds of 4.10 GHz, with TurboCore frequencies of 4.30 GHz.

The standard variant features 125W TDP, while the FX-8370E features 95W. The two will sell at the same price-points as the FX-8350. The FX-8370E will sell at a slight premium.
