Hi all, don't really have time for much gaming these days except football manager because it allows me to jump in and out for 5mins whilst looking after 10month y/o when she is playpen etc. Also, I like that it can be running constantly in the background and just needs mouse, any other gaming dads have recommendations for strategy/management games like that?

cheers!

Rimworld!

Might be best to pause it rather than letting it play to itself, otherwise you may come back to everyone and they are dead.

I still play all the normal games across PS4/Xbox/Switch/PC with 3 children (11 months, 3 yo, 4yo) - the trick is to be ready to go with a game in mind before you sit down. I generally get 1 hour at night (9:30pm - 10:30pm) and make sure it is a solid gaming time - no internet surfing / faffing etc!

I thought XCOM 2 was an excellent strategy game, I enjoyed that.

XCom2 is definitely not a 5 minute dip in dip out. For me it came in handy for when I was doing the 1am/2am feed I didnt bother going to bed after the 11am feed just stopped up gaming then after next feed went to bed.

This is what I do.

Their is nothing worse than loading up a game, only to find it needs an update before playing! Thank god for steam updates and most of the time they happen while my wife is using the PC :D

I have set gaming nights, every Monday and Tuesday is my gaming night after they have gone to bed. I have 2 children, 6 year and 9 year old and it's worked for me all these years. And if the wife go's out any night, that becomes a bonus gaming night and I game with one headset off my ear. Just in case any of them wake up, not really a problem now with their ages, but I still do it.

I mainly play flight sims and fps games.

Any game that doesn't have blood and swearing. Sit them on your lap and let them learn.
Then in a couple of years, cheap kids android tablet so they can start learning to play some basic games. You get game time while they get game time. Progress it from there :D

Mine girls are 8 and 11 now :)

Cities:skylines
Two point hospital

Also a gaming dad but only play at night when they are sleeping. Also they are a bit older so tend to sleep most nights

Total War Warhammer II - Heavily modded and takes 15 mins to load. Like XCom 2, they are the sort of games that you can pause/save when you have to AFK to tell the kids to go back to bed. Also each turn takes ages, so I can empty dishwasher, etc during the turns. I used to use my Oculus, but if they see me playing with it, then they are up nagging to have a go.
If they are soundly asleep, I might get an hour of Destiny 2 or a long session of TW:Wh2.
Oh, Rainy Sundays are good for Sea of Thieves or World of Warcraft. The kids love watching me play anything with cartoony graphics and bouts of sillyness.

it gets much easier as they get older,

especially when you slap the taste out of their mouth at fifa or cod :)
younguns reflexes are no match for 30 years of hardcore gaming experience.

fired up UT99 in the office a few weeks ago and took great delight in whooping my boy and a few of fortnite loving friends at a proper fps :) next up quake

Gaming dad here to a soon-to-be 2 year old. I play about an hour each night while the missus puts him to bed and each Friday is basically a free night to play as we both need some time for ourselves after the stresses of the week.

It was a hard adjustment to make, i'd literally play 2-4 hours each night and a good 10 hours over the weekend prior to his birth.

Can't wait until I can play with him in a few years, he can already switch on my PC, climb in my chair and type in the password for windows at 21 months old, he scares me. I know it's just copying me and repetition but i'm sure I was still playing with my own poop at that age. :D

Just Survive clan4life :D @Spils @JamesM @Ezah @Carl-Brit and others I can't remember.

While looking back it was a POS game, it's some of my favourite gaming memories, as broken as it was there are few other games and mods that generated the same tension. Wrecking that other clan on here and the constant hackusations.

What are you playing these days?

Yeah it was a blast at the start, do you still game with the rest?

Me, I pretty much just play R6 Siege and mainly all SP campaigns. None of the PVP survival games are any good, although sometimes I find myself going back to Ark for a few weeks.

Been playing a lot of yooka laylee with my 2year old.
she just runs about jumping with him then is happy to watch for a bit while I do an mission thing then it's back to her, works really well.

Forget the tablets get them a basic laptop which can handle games on low-med with the onboard Intel GPU when they are about 3 and by the time they hit school at 5yrs they can knock the socks off of their classmates. My two were doing maths games and creating pictures etc whilst rest of their class were learning basic mouse and keyboard skills. At 6 and 9 they've now got their own £1000 gaming laptop each.
