So what's the current hive-mind consensus/recommendation for a gaming/development/encoding rig for around £900? (able to push a little beyond that if needed.) Needs to include everything (case, screen, keyboard, mouse, optical, psu etc.)

could make it cheaper getting not as good graphics like the 8800GTS without that much difference in fps

It's a spec for a friend, and yes, overclocking potential is welcome as some medium overclocking may happen if I can convince him. :) Budget can probably stretch to a grand, if that helps.

A couple of components are currently out of stock so some substitutes may be required if buying from OcUK in the near future.

Basically as this rig will be used for encoding I figured Quad-core, 4gig RAM and a 500gig+ HD were pretty desirable. Obviously if gaming is more of a priority than dropping to dual core, 2gig ram and beefing up the gfx card would be advisable.
