Anyone do this?

If so what sort of keyboard/mouse type arrangements do you have?!
I thinking of getting a Shuttle or similar for the front room to play stuff on my 40" Sony LCD but how I would play with no desk for the kb and mouse is a concern!!

Anyone?

When im at home ill get this crap little fold out table and try to use that, not that good rly since size i use a MS internet keyboard, which isnt just a square shaped compact one, basically means iv got 0 room for mouse without some squirming. I tend to play nothing but pro evo nowadays though, so its gamepad for me. Cant see many decent keyboard+mouse on the couch setups.

I’m thinking of a Belkin Speedpad N52 and a mouse on the tray I eat my dinner! Best I can come up with atm to give my mouse enough room.

Well..

My arrangement isn't quite like yours but this may help.

I have used a Lay-Zee-Boy recliner for years with my computer. The recliner is about 6 inches from a table upon which sit my PC and a couple of screens. I edge kind of sideways into the chair then use a lever on the side to get into the reclining position - feet up and well under the table, backrest at about 30 degrees to the vertical - very restful. I can stay here for many, many, hours.

The key is a pastry rolling board. Its about 20" by 15", made of some sort od acrylic, is light and plenty big enough for a mouse and keyboard. This fits snugly on my lap between the chair's well padded armrests. (I use wireless mouse and keyboard).

I can use the mouse comfortably with my arm resting comfortably of the chair's arm - the position is good from the rsi point of view, naturally raised just above the mouse and all the weight spread along the length of my forearm, not concentrated on the wrist area.

Pens and pencils on the left of table in front of the screen. Drinks on a drink mat on the right of the table in front of the tower (floor too dirty for it). Wastebin on the floor to the left. Books magazines, games etc scattered on the floor to the right. Food in front not blocking the two screens.

Perfect :)

Yea i spose some slightly larger board would be an idea, rest on the arms as u say....hmm, thanks.

I've got a remote keyboard and mouse. Keyboard on my lap, mouse on the sofa next to me. Feet up on the coffee table!

I find it very comfortable! ;)

Blutooth Keyboard on lap with mouse on couch with hard backed mat. BT is useful as can be used with PS3 as well, just flip over the dongle!

Before you jump in with two feet, it's worth doing a bit of reasearch into gaming on HDTV's, as I'm sure you have.

From my experience, gaming is best at TV's native resolution (video - set to 720p or 1080p depending on set). If your 40" Sony is a 1080p set, then you will need a pretty hefty GPU to cope with 1920 x 1080 at a decent frame rate to keep things smooth.

If it's a 720p set, then 1320 x 768 is easier to cope with for a GPU.

Finally, bear in mind that some older panels (inc. Sony) don't cope with PC gaming that well and can suffer from issues such as "smearing".

If your Sony is one of the newer ones (D3000, W3000, X3000/3500) then you should be fine.

How to game from the couch! The problems of modern man huh?

100 years ago our class was trying to get a job that didnt involve getting poisoned to death at 50 years old, or buried alive.

That said, I am trying to solve the same issue now that I caught up with the 21st century and replaced the old Sanyo 25" CRT TV with an LG 32" LCD, and I am getting an HTPC. Since that HTPC will have some gaming possibilities, my conclusion to the problem is the gamepad might do the job, as the games I am more likely to want to play on the big screen are not exactly flight sims, but more like footie games, etc, i.e. arcade style games. My gamepad is a Playstation style one with the 2 analog sticks and triggers.

PS: My god does the PS2 suddenly look dated on a 720p screen

Yeah, I've got a couple of wireless gamepads too.

Can't beat a game of footy upon my return from the pub.

i personally game from couch. my desk is next to the couch, so i kinda sneek a little table infront of the couch, and move the monitor & speakers onto it. Its pretty kool, cos i can see the tv behind the monitor, whilst comfortably sitting/slouching/laying/streching out on a big a$$ leather couch!!! SWEET! :D

i game from the bed :), i dont leave my room im sad, i have tried using my 27inch lcd for a screen but its just to big i can manage a 20inch just, any bigger and it dosnt feel rite.

i game till im square eyed and i can literally fall back into my bed, i have one of them ps2/pc pads aswell, works good, some games its annoying as theres to many controls for not so many buttons so it ends up not compatible :(

if you want to game well then a shuttle won't have the spec to play the best games will it?

XBOX 360 or PS3 imho, which also gets rid of your keyboard problem =]
