Hey. i was just thinking about gaming graphics. How good the graphics are now and how much they can actually improve graphics to the point where the game designers have to start implementing real life scenery. Start taking real life shots of people and putting them into games to start seeing an improvement in gaming graphics?

Still pretty bad atm, tbh. There's a long way to go yet. 10-15 years or so, I expect. DX10 *crosses fingers* should improve things in a major way, hopefully.

theyre adding too much crap in it now. ie HDR. some is ok, but they just spoon the stuff on games now to make them pretty. far from realistic. same with adding shiny surfaces on anything, even wood with no gloss etc. looks ok in thats its visually pleasing, but for realism?
no chance.

hopefully crysis wont have too much of this eye candy rubbish and lots of real shapes and textures and models

I think the biggest leap recently has been things like realistic cameras and depth of field+focus.

For me games have always looked a bit too sharp due to the way real life is only totally focussed where you're looking. Obviously in games the designers don't know where you're looking but in cut scenes/certain situations it can be used to great effect.

As for HDR not being real looking, it's fantastically realistic. Some games overdo it admittedly but it's a great effect.

What do you mean by "real life shots of people and putting them into the game to see an improvement in gaming graphics" ? if you mean photographs being used for textures they've been doing it since Max Payne :p

yeah things like depth of field and motion blur are very nice now. i hope to see these implemented into a lot more games from now on. it can really make the difference! i noticed that in cellfactor

I'm still waiting for that texture mapping software they had in Running Man. I want to post a YouTube video of me fighting Arnie in a cage!

Call of Duty 3 kind of does this. When you're looking down a scope it takes a half-second to focus, and your peripherals are blurred. (you can only focus on the bit down the sight) Found it annoying at first, but then got to appreciate it for the realism :)

More like 4 of those bad boys i rekon

If im right in thinking, having more than one GPU dosent so much improve the quality of a game image but it improves the speed of the game at that uber res or am i wrong?

Since they are still screenshots, they could be just showing of the image quality so infact they could only be using a GTX or HD2900XT etc....

As soon as they start playing the game it could be laggy like i dunno what.
