Gaming has taken a dive for me again

I understand your issue and have a similar situation. Now that I have other responsibilities in life (young child, house, wife work etc) my gaming time is massively reduced and I'm finding myself being much pickier about what I play. Gone are the days when I would happily grind away at some game just for the sake of playing, now I reaaly have to feel like I'm achieving something when I play. Consequently many games that 10 years ago I would have loved just don't hold me any longer. Ah well, just the joys of getting older I suppose :)

I constantly want to mod it and never am happy with it. I never just sit down and play it properly like on the 360.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean, I've lost count of the number of times I've had a spare hour and thought I'll play some Skyrim. Just a quick check to update my mods, maybe find some new ones, tweak a few settings and before I know it I've spent 45 minutes mucking around and only have 15 minutes left to actually play the damn thing :)

I started Tomb Raider yesterday, and have lost more of a lovely weekend to it than I care to admit. :-) I have some problems with the game (starting with the voice actress trying a bit too hard to be Angelina Jolie rather than a genuine posh Brit!) but I soon realised this isn't really Tomb Raider at all, it's Uncharted 2 for the PC. So many of the ideas and scenes have been lifted straight out of it.

Which isn't a bad thing. The Last of Us encouraged me to take some PS3 titles a lot more seriously last year, and there are far worse games to borrow from.

Tomb Raider also hammers home just how disappointing Fac Cry3 was for me (I know lots loved it). I couldn't have cared less about the spoilt little whiners in FC3, so didn't get very far. And while TR is hardly pushing the story telling boundaries, it certainly has some narrative drive behind it.

So if anyone's struggling for motivation and hasn't played this yet, I recommend it. However be warned... some of the quicktime stuff is as annoying as heck unless you have a controller and a tolerance for this kind of gameplay hurdle. Younger folk with better reaction times may find them less frustrating though. :-)

Yeah, Tomb Raider is really brilliant.

Thanks to this thread I 'Completed' Assassins Creed III (80% after story was done) and started Splinter Cell blacklist. AC III was a chore but Blacklist is surprisingly good.

Hey guys! What is an attention span?

I jest though, I am the same. I've found that using Steam categories helps though. I have a category for:
- Games to complete
- In Progress
- Completed
- Multiplayer/Sandbox/Uncomplete-able

Out of boredom and interest in trying out my new 290 I finally installed and booted the new Tomb Raider.

Wow, what a breath of fresh air. The remake is fantastic, my interest in this series died off long ago but the additions they have made to game play along with the stunning graphics has made me think again.

Max Payne was and still is a classic!...

Completed one and two, never played three

Bit like Resident Evil..loved the originals, never really got into more recent titles.

Anyway......having breaks away from the PC helps a lot for me. With the summer coming up will be out and about more with the odd game in the evenings/weekends.

Then Winter turns up and i'll be playing 24/7.

Bit like hibernating! lol :D

Kind of see where the OP is coming from...

Was looking forward to X Rebirth but wisely waited to read some reviews and haven't bothered on the strength of those.

Bought Thief but incredibly disappointed as noted in the title specific thread.

Last "decent" game I bought (outside of train sim stuff) was the Director's Cut of Deus Ex which you could argue isn't exactly new.

No sign of The Golf Club which was mooted for April. No sign of GTA V on the PC which would keep my interest alive.

Perhaps Wolfenstein will offer something when it appears.

In the meantime replaying Skyrim and going for maximum XP/side mission completion, but it does kind of get stale going over the same ground again. Ditto Mass Effect which I recently had a marathon eight week play through from ME1 to ME3, maximum Renegade. Then there was my pleasant re-acquaintance with Command & Conquer...

At this rate I will be reinstalling GTA SA (assuming it runs on my spec) as while dated, still one of the best games of all time, never really been equalled.

Well, in that place where I got nothing that grips my fancy...

I'm not looking forward to Dark Souls 2 after a couple of recent releases being absolutely awful and huge let downs.

I've still got a tonne of AMAZING games to complete, Max Payne 3 (almost complete!), Assassins Creed 4, Splinter Cell Blacklist etc etc.

Just no drive to play them, does anyone have a system they have in place that lets them focus on one or 2 games at a time?I dart between so many games I can't settle on just one.

Get Borderlands 2 - see you in 6 months :)

You are just spoilt for choice!

I also suggest doing something else with your time. At least I found myself meandering over what game to play after often would end up wasting an hour or so just browsing at websites a flicking through my steam Library etc but yet not playing anything :p Now I go do something else and come back somewhat motivated to play a game but that only works when there are other distractions!

Or maybe you just want a taste for new games which I highly suggest playing some very short Indie games which are usually interesting and you will probably feel some form of satisfaction by completing a game which can turn into motivation for playing a larger title :D Also maybe go off the beaten path off large AAA games which often have so much to them you feel lost. For example I'm currently playing Binary Domain which is a little slow to start off but is good fun an hour or so in. The gameplay is very simple and there isn't much to the game but the enjoyment comes with the story/characters.

I think I'm affected by this more than the average person due to my job (games industry). I actually realised I was enjoying games less as soon as I started.

Since xmas ive only played Warframe for a few hours. That's about it. For some reason i just don't like gaming atm. For some reason i refuse to play. Have no interst playing :(

I've been thinking about it the last couple of weeks and I've started to realise that it doesn't matter how good a new game is, I'll always end up playing the same map over and over again on Counter Strike Source after a few days. Considering my username and the fact that I booked a week off work for the release of GTA V I've barely touched the game. I got three days worth of play out of that game and haven't really played it since, I've still not finished the story missions.

Strangely enough the only game that has kept me off Counter Strike for any decent length of time is DayZ Standalone despite all of its flaws. I think it's because I've found a game I can play with a few friends which we all enjoy to an extent, if I was to try and play it on my own I'd probably get bored of that quickly too.

The latest game is Space Engineers which I also play with a friend. I think the key thing for me with any new game is to hope that a friend wants to play it as well otherwise I might as well not bother.

Boring suggestion but hear me out. Download the latest 2013 mod from fakefactory and fire up half life 2 again, plus the follow up episodes. It's a really well made graphical boost and refresh of the series. I played some over the weekend and found myself absorbed in single player gaming again like I haven't been for years!

Also, if you never played Stalker look out for all the mods for that series. The latest mod for the first one (lost alpha) is due out end of this month.

None of these have that 'new' never seen before feel obviously though so it's a double edged sword. I do think its a sad reflection on the current games industry that a 10 year old, spruced up game gets me more in the zone that anything else at the moment though.
