Hello, well ive just broke my head set now lol, the wire was around my foot which i didnt know and i walked off and snapped the cable so new gaming headset it is. Ive just had a look at some head sets and this came across. The Speedlink Medusa NX 5.1 head set, but what i have seen is u put the 3.5 in your sound card but i have onboard sound so im guessing there would be no point :(.
Also had a look at these PLANTRONICS GAMECOM 777 5.1, but you need to plus them into a usb sound card or somthing to get 5.1? I dont know what to do, would the adapter you get with it give you 5.1? Help please

Erm, i have had a look at them and they dont really seem attractive, i want somthing that has good bass, good for games and skype and music, and surround sounds.

As Mark said.. the Goldrings would be the best if your budget is within £50... i also don't like the look of them much... but they do sound AWESOME! (from what i've heard, lol) ;)

Has ocuk stopped selling the goldring dr150's in the past few days ?

A few weeks back, I think. Not seen them stocked for a while.

I can't stress the importance of a soundcard enough when recommending stereo headphones for gaming. With a Xonar or X-Fi you get good surround sound reproduction over stereo headphones - much better than the multiple driver headphones like the medusas (I have a set).

With onboard sound and stereo headphones many gamers will be disappointed though. It's marginally better if onboard has headphone virtualisation or you're using games with a dedicated headphone mode like CS:S. To be honest most games sound pretty dreary over standard stereo headphones with onboard sound though.

So yes, I'd echo the others in recommending the DR150s. Goldring's own NS1000s are better (if completely different - closed, noise cancelling headphones) now they can be had for under £50 though. To add a cautionary note I would say if you haven't got one budget for a soundcard later (Xonar D1 / DX or X-Fi Titanium / Xtreme Gamer maybe - definitely not Xonar DS or X-Fi Xtreme Audio). It will make a huge difference.

Is there not a headset for the same price as the goldrings which includes a microphone and sounds just as good ?

Have an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard by the way

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any headset that sounds as good as the Goldrings for the money. Plenty of headsets I've not tried though but from what I've read you'll struggle to find anything that good for the price

Although the Audigy 2 does have headphone virtualisation (CMSS-3D headphone), it's nowhere near as good as the updated X-Fi technology or Dolby Heapdhone on Xonar.

By the way - I used to run an Audigy 2 with Medusas. I thought the combo was pretty good at the time but that was before I heard many stereo hi-fi headphones or surround virtualisation on newer soundcards.

No, headsets are generic crap, especially those from speedlink and razer the mouse and mat maker.

Get some headphones and a cheapy mic, your ears will love you forever.

I've just bought the DR150's from some auction site, coupled with a Zalman clip-on mic recommended from a couple of posts on here, couldn't be more happy and all for under £50.

hmmm, i was thinking on getting the Asus Xonar D2X sound card, looks good imo and get Roccat Kave but people say that are rubbish. So i dont know :(

Absolutely no point in getting a Roccat Kave (or any 5.1 headset) with a Xonar D2X. The Xonar has Dolby Headphone for use with stereo headphones. From my experience of Speedlink Medusas, the Xonar's Dolby Headphone option is far, far superior than dedicated 5.1 headphones.

Any particular reason you fancy the Xonar D2X rather than the cheaper D1 or DX? There's not a lot of difference for most users. It would give you a little more to spend on the headphones and mic / headset anyway.

erm not really, ive had a look and i have herd tht the d2x is good, even compared to xifi, plus i just want any exspensive sound card and it looks good so lol, i dont have abudget really, max i would spend on sound card and headset relle is £100 each

Well unless you're planning on using DTS connect, the D1 and DX are just as good. The D2X is a bit prettier I guess. Plus is comes with PowerDVD and some recording software. Otherwise there's barely any difference.

It's only really worth moving up the Xonar Line if you fnacy the Xonar Essence ST or STX. They have a built in headphone amp but are both over budget.
