Could anyone spec me a a gaming keyboard it doesn't have to mechanical but it would be lovely if it were. I was thinking about g400 for the mouse and perhaps razer gaming keyboard or the Cherry G803000 (love the old school look). any suggestions ?

g400 is a great mouse, and the cherry G80 has blue switches. So if you like loud clicky and tactile feedback the blue switch is for you. However i have heard that it has poor build quality

I'd go for the g400 and mk 50 with brown switches just because i like how the q-pad looks and it's the only cheap brown switch keyboard i have seen. but what switch you choose is personal preference

I'd go for the new Gigabyte Osmium mechanical and a Sensei, if money was no object.

On a tight budget, a Sidewinder X4, and a Ikari Optical / G400 / Xornet / G500 / Sensei Raw, depending on preferences and budget.

Highly enjoying my Cyborg setup I have at the moment.

Using the Cyborg v.7 keyboard alongside a Rat 3 mouse, great quality and feel to both of them at a really nice price below £85 for the pair!

:)

I've got a Corsair K60, brilliant keyboard, love the feel of cherry red switches. Wish i'd have spent the extra on the K90 now.

I have a G700 mouse, excellent mouse, fits your hand perfect with plenty of custom buttons.

G700 is excellent yeah but the battery will need charging (or swapping) every day if you game for long hours. IT's a high performing mouse and uses a dedicated receiver (not unifying).

Had mine a few years and it is great :)

Just to put this here, don't bother with gaming keyboards.
Find what you find COMFORTABLE and use that, a keyboard is a keyboard.
You might find mechanical's more comfortable, or maybe scissor switches or maybe even some rubber domes....I use a cheap £10 chiclet rubber dome and its comfortable to type and to game on, responds really well. I hate high keys, they are just horrible, tried multiple different cherry switch keyboards and I hated all of them. Currently looking for a replacement with chiclet keys but there seems to be non anywhere without worrying issues like key blocking or some other issue which makes the keyboard un-usable. The only option I have atm is a an apple keyboard but they have there own issues with them along with a hefty price tag.

pretty much what this guy said.

btw if you like chiclet keys then the logitech k750 has the best feeling chiclets I've ever used, although its wireless which may not suit.

Yes but that keyboard has issues with the battery dying after so long because of the solar cells constantly recharging the battery, the battery can only go through so many charge cycles before it starts to die, people report the battery dying after as little as 6month, even logitech have accnoledged this and all they said was, just buy another battery. Plus the only light getting to the keyboard would be monitor light ;p most the time ^^. I've tried the keys on the keyboard, and yes, they are very very nice, but would be better if they got rid of the solar cells and just put normal batteries or a cord on.

I suggest the new CM Storm Quick Fire TK Mechanical Keyboard, Blacklit, Red switches perfect for gaming. Pretty cheap for a mechanical backlit keyboard too. As for the mouse G400 all the way :D

Steelseries G6V2 for the keyboard and either a Steelseries mouse or a Razer Deathadder.
