Looking for a good gaming laptop. Moving in with the lass and so can no longer just sit on the tower so I need a good gaming laptop that I can use when sitting in the living room if she puts on her trashie soaps or reality TV :D

Don't particularly want to spend much more than £500 though I can go higher for the right machine.

Generally play online games varying from WoW to LfD.

Any advice?

Cheers!

Advent 7555GX. if you hunt around you may be able to get it for around £670 - £699. Its dropped in price twice within the space of 2 months.

Agreed, if you can find one that's the best to get,for the simple reason it's got a quad, 4GB RAM and uses the 4850m which is pretty high on the laptop GPU charts (about 3rd fastest single card, with the GTX280m and 4870 being faster)

Can anyone find any user pics of the Advent? I'm considering it but it looks a bit cheap and tacky in the official product photos.

Dell Studio 15 with the Radeon 4570 would be fine for L4D and WoW. You can get them off the Dell Outlet for like £380-£400 now.

Advent has a good spec, but it's an Advent! :) From those pictures it looks really cheaply made.

thats a very good graphics card for that price.
But then again its an Advent so the i doubt the build quality would be very good.
What the screen resolution? Doesnt seem to say it on the site

Its basically a reboxed MSI GT725.
The screen res is 1440x900. Not amazing, but with that GPU it'll remain playable for some time.
The mobile 4850 is actually a pretty decent card, its about 4830 level in a desktop, or as another example, similar to an 8800GT. (Hits about 5K, usually a little above, GPU score in Vantage)

Alex is correct. Its advent but its a MSI GT725 build.

ill pretty much run everything out there atm near maximum. Runs Dragon Age for me at around 30 - 60 fps at maximum settings. (ive posted some screens in the DA thread)

Negative points

Keyboard is a bit cramped. Some keys are smaller so they could fit a full size keyboard onto laptop. Not a deal breaker for me.

Screen is only 1440x900. Fine for me but not if you want to play at higher res. Also the Viewing angle for the screen isnt the best. It looks fine when you are right in front of it.

Good Stuff

Very quiet
Lighter than my Dell M1710
You basically get a top end gaming laptop for under £700 which for the uk is freakish :D
Good build quality
Not much bloatware

Heres some reviews of it. (advent 6555 basically same as 7555GX cept no bluray in 7555GX)

You will find better and more powerful laptops but not at this price
