Gaming magazine's

I get PC Gamer every so often, but it does seem that the adverts outweigh the actual articles, if it was a hell of a lot cheaper I would understand the need for this.

ZZap64 I think I still have a best of Rob Hubbard music tape in my parents loft somewhere :)

Rock Paper Shotgun gives me the ol' PC Zone vibe, some of the duff reviews are hilarious. I occasionally buy Games (http://www.gamestm.co.uk/) but mostly for the console stuff I might otherwise not be aware of.

I think I stopped buying PC Gamer about 5 or 6 years ago, when it became more expensive than many games :)

currently got a subscription to PC, and i do get quite excited when i find the next issue on the mat when i get home from work and every time i say to myself im going to sit down and actually read this one not just skim through it like i usually do. but as of late i havent been able to keep that promise.

I had every single issue of PC zone (with cover discs, then later cover CDs).

Bought issue 1 for the X-wing cover disc, subscriber since issue 2.

Had to recycle them when I moved and didn;t have the space for a massive and pointless collection of old magazines. I miss them.

Charlie Brooker was a genius even back then. Lara Croft's cruelty zoo, anyone?

Still have a sub to PC gamer and also GAMEStm. Enjoy them both but GAMEStm more so due to the variety of content.

Used to have also a sub to PC Zone and have the last issue still in its packaging in the loft. Zone seriously bombed in the last few months of its life. It is almost like they just gave up, so really I was not sorry to see it go at all.

Despite all the content online I always have preferred a mag. :D

I bought PC Gamer for many years but the Ads outweighed the articles on games and a lot of nonsense was included so I stopped, would love an OCUK magazine with reviews which were completely impartial and not going along with the hype, maybe a negative review column where there is nothing but negativity about PC gaming.....

PC Gamer became very MMO focused a while back and the last issue I read looked like it was trying to be Custom PC as it contained several HW reviews and PC build articles.

Hopefully not changing the topic too much, but I too miss PC Zone, I loved that magazine. What are the best gaming review websites that people use then ?

As we're talking about magazines, and writing, can someone please edit the topic title and remove the fugging unneccessary apostrophe. Grammar nazi I am yes :-)

Used to love PCG back in the day when Kieron Gillen worked for them and before they did the CVG merge.

I got the November issue of PC Gamer and I think its fantastic, instead of a dvd you get freebies (usually steam key and something else).

The price is still £5.99 so perhaps they're included in the price.

Very nice downloads section which gives you the 10 essential downloads (in their opinion) for that month. This month its minecraft maps and thief 2 texture mod.

£5.99 is far too expensive imo so I wouldn't buy it every month.

Does anyone remember ACE Magazine? They used to run competitions where you send your name in and each month they would go visit a developer with some readers for a look round at new games and do a Q&A session. I was very lucky and got picked to go to Gremlin Graphics in my home town Sheffield. We were shown round all the rooms with developers beavering away, the usual free play arcade games and got a chance to play on new games in development. We then did a Q&A and at the end we got to go home with a bucketload of free games for the Amiga.

Problem with PC Gamer and the steam keys is a lot of the time people go into say a supermarket write the key down (I've seen people take photos of it with their phone or copy it down onto their phone) then dont buy the mag and when you take the mag home a lot of the time just for the game it doesnt work. You then have the hassle of emailing the mag hoping they would send a replacement key.

I was seriously addicted to gaming magazines up to 10 or so years ago, I got to a point where i was spending £40+ a month on mags. Some of my favorite reads were Amiga Format, ST Format, PC Zone, Ace, C&VG, Crash etc. Even What HiFi till I came to my senses!!!
