On the Dell U2410 (at least) does gaming mode make a noticeable difference in input lag?
Also could you leave it on Gaming mode all the time ie when on the desktop?
And if not why not?

I'm not interested in photograhy and will only be using it for general surfing and gaming.
I currently have a 2407WFP A04 revision and I cant detect any input lag but have some Xmas money burning a hole so might upgrade to the U2410. ;)

yes it does help, reduces average input lag from ~34ms to ~14ms. see here. other than bypassing some internal circuits i dont think it does a massive amount more. believe it does allow access to DCR if you wanted to use the feature, and would not be one of the precalibrated profiles like if you were using sRGB or AdobeRGB, but for general use you could still use it

I have never understood how Dell can keep releasing monitors with the same old problems year after year.

Input lag was first spotted and fixed in later firmware revisions in the 2407, and again in the 2408 and now the with the U2410.

I'm guessing they brainwash the engineering teams to forget everything they have learned at the launch of each new series?

i wouldnt say they have released a monitor with the same problem again to be fair. The earlier 2407WFP / 2408WFP etc had input lag of >50 - 60ms which is far too high. they have done well to keep it down to about 34ms on the U2410, but it's very difficult to eliminate it altogether. they have provided a game mode to reduce it further to ~14ms which is very pretty really
