It's pretty tough to make any sort of recommendation without a bit more detail.

Do you want a 4k or a 1440p monitor? What games do you play? And depending on the games, is high refresh (240hz) an absolute requirement? Or does 144-165 also work for you? What screen size do you prefer?

That monitor you linked in the first post is a really good monitor - but it's also 800 quid. LG's latest 27GP850 is a 180hz monitor (also at 1440p) that's about half the price. The Dell S2721DGFA is a 165hz monitor, slightly cheaper than the LG but doesn't have an sRGB emulation mode and colours might look a tad saturated - but again, a really good monitor.

Or do you want 4k? The LG27GP950 is a 27" 4K 144hz panel but good luck finding it in in stock...

Or do you prefer to play at 1080p? 360hz monitors are now available - but you could also go with BenQ at 240hz but with Dyac.

So for 4k what size a 30? I thought it was about refresh rate?

27" (or 34" UW) seems to be the sweet spot for 1440p, anything higher I would want 4k

Obviously the higher the res, the lower fps (and so refresh), depends what is more important to you - performance for competitive online gaming, or immersion for single player experience?

From all your helpful replies it seems to me 1440p is enough I play a lot of fps games and 4k would just be overkill and possibly wouldn't tell the difference so the lg monitor posted here looks a great monitor for the money. Also the gpx card I am waiting for would be an 3080 or the ti version but at 1440p the 3070 might be more than enough.

If you play mostly FPS games then it does sound like you'd benefit more from a high refresh 1440p than a slower 4k (plus you'll be more likely to get the frames to match the screen at the lower resolution)

Was thinking of getting two of these for my setup and maybe an ultra wide wouldn't fit but is an ultra wide worth having instead two monitors?

For gaming absolutely, dual monitors doesn't work too well for gaming due to bezels right in the middle of your view.

But if you want your game on 1 screen and discord etc on another then dual screen maybe better

For productivity, it depends on the ultrawide, a 21:9 ultrawide isn't as big as 2x 16:9 displays of the same pixel height (it's about 33% bigger than a single one), however, the 49" super ultrawides (5120x1440) are identical to dual 2560x1440 side by side, just without the bezels.

Of course to run a 49" at fullscreen is going to essentially half your performance, since it is double the pixels, and also means you will need to move your head to see the edges rather than just your eyes... Sadly there's a trade-off whichever you go for

A 3080 may struggle to hit high FPS in AAA games at 5120x1440, but should be spot on for 3440x1440

Only problem with ultrawide is, once you've used one, you'll never want to use a 16:9 again :D
