hi guys i'm finally migrating over to TFT so i'm kind of a noob when it comes to tft and what i'm looking for.

i need to perform very highly in games (mainly counterstrike 1.6/source) as i'm a high level gamer so ideally 2ms, asthetics of the monitor itself aren't important to me as i tend to look at whats on the screen rather than the screen itself ;) i'd like the image quality to of a respectable standard, also looking for no bigger than 19" and if possible non-widescreen.

so with these things in mind anyone have any ideasto what would be the best for me?

haha i know, i'd love to go widescreen but for cs 1.6 i really don't want to have to keep mucking around with getting the resolutions sorted.

the nec's look good i've also looked at the 90Gx2 pro? any thoughts on this? also the samsung 931-C which is really hard to find at the minute

CS 1.6 now fully supports widescreen (no stretching at all) I play all the time in 1900x1200 :)

I play CSS a lot, matches etc in cups/ladders/leagues.

Recently went widescreen with a 19" BenQ FP94VW, works well for me.

2ms response, and has a button for different configurations (desktop/action/race) - can be quite useful.

as i stated earlier, coming from a crt background i feel the dell won't be fast enough, none the less they are great monitors! i think i'm either going to get the vx922 as i've sourced it for £166new inc vat so think that's a fair price!

i fully accept this, however as i tend to lan a lot, the monitors i'l use at lan i doubt will be widescreen due to most 1.6 players playing in 640x480 or 800x600..

If you're that worried about it just keep a spare CRT for when you want to polish your CS skills properly, a TFT will do for maintaining skill and fun.

My only comment here ... would be steer clear of any screen with a Dynamic Contrast ratio (unless you can switch it off). I still remain amazed that I've seen very few comments about this from a gamers perspective.

I speak from experience here. Now my LG 1960TR is a great screen, but it has the nasty habit of mucking about with the contrast ratio on the fly.

For example: Tomb Raider Anniversary. You move from a light area (say outside sunny area) into a cave and suddenly... it's like someone switches on the lights (IE. its like the screen is trying to lighten the area).

Now by fine tuning the brightness and contrast (IE. reduced from 100%/70% to 40%/50%) it reduces the effect. But it's still there. And I've tried the various pre-set modes the LG offers and it's still happens. Not a massive problem and maybe I'm being a bit picky .... but can just be annoying at times.

I've since seen two other screens with some form of Dynamic Contract Ratio in action in games and both did similar things (both different makes). Strangely one of the guys had not even noticed it until I pointed it out. So it's not like it's just LG screens.

All told though, I don't regret buying the LG1960TR, though I do wonder if I might have been happier with the VX922.

Well the best ones are the 2ms tn panels for gaming competitively but don't be under any illusion that they compare to a good CRT because they just dont for games like CS or any first person shooter unfortunately yet.

i realise and appreciate that for 1.6 crt is still superior due to room issues i'm having to convert to tft + most of the lans are now using tft screens, i'm just trying to find out what is the most obvious choice to go for?
