At the moment I'm not to sure what root to go down, buying a 49" Samsung G9 Odyssey gaming monitor or buy a 55" gaming tv.This will be powered up by a Nvidia 3080 10GB Graphics card.

What are your thoughts, or better suggestions.

TVs usually have lower refresh rate, resolution and response time than monitors and can have higher input lag, but which models are you comparing specifically?

I have been looking at top spec samsung tv, not sure what would be better OLED OR QLED and LG C2

I was gaming on my LG 55"" TV CX Oled 120hz and then i bought the Samsung 49"" Odyyssey G9 240hz Oled monitor. Im back gaming on my CX its just better for me. I prefer the comfort of the couch. And the CX is still amazing me some 2 to 3 years later.

I prefer my dell 27" IPS 1440p 165 hz for 'serious' gaming at the desk in my living room.
I have an lg c2 4k plugged in also which is better for couch/casual gaming and the HDR OLED is a lot better.

I can't quite put my finger on why, as the LG is technically a better screen.. Maybe input lag or the refresh rate being limited to 120hx.

The bulit in audio on the LG C2 is also supprisingly good for a flat screen TV too, to the point you don't really need to buy/use external amp/speakers unless you're super serious about your audio if that's a consideration.

I wouldn't like to be without either Tbh..
Not much help but my TV is better at being a TV, and the monitor is better at being a monitor.

What if you only had to game in the office, desk and chair keyboard and mouse because I normally play FPS game what would you choose?

I guess it depends on the person. Obviously if he tv is big too big too sit close too. I do use a wireless mouse and keyboard an all in one keyboard from corsair that has a mousepad on it too. Playing games like Baldur gate 3 no problem. I don't play much fps these days but if I had to sit at desk to use the Samsung because of space limitations well it wouldn't be a bad thing too. Both good.Saying that I'm selling on my Samsung as don't feel I can do it justice.

I have two PCs in my room currently. Main system is high end + 34" OLED. I like to play the premium HDR games or fast paced FPS on it.

The other is just a 2nd build from spare parts (5600G + RX7600). Used to have a 165Hz 32" Dell monitor but recently sold it with with a build. Now have an older LG 48" TV as it was being thrown out at work. I recently played Baldur's gate on it and at a fixed 30fps it was smooth but the cinematic cut scenes were great on it. Now just playing Starfield as an experiment and following the Hardware Unboxed Youtube settings guide I can get ~40fps at 4K in most areas and again the cutscene etc. looks great. Due to the age of the TV it is a little laggy so I'm going to switch back to the main system ultimately.

So depends on the game really but a modern QD-LED/OLED 120Hz with VRR would be fine for most games plus the size is a bonus for cutscene impact.

In recent years I've used a 27" 1440p 144 Hz, a 34" 1440 ultrawide 165 Hz and currently use a 42" C2 OLED. I've also used a friend's 32" 1440p 165 Hz and another friend's Odyssey Neo G9.

The Neo G9 is cool for gaming as you get a lot of peripheral vision, but after gaming on my C2 for a few months I really missed the extra height. The G9 sucks if you plan to watch a lot of films or YouTube on it. It just becomes a 27" monitor with big black bars either side. It's also not the easiest thing to use for web browsing as you'll end up turning your head a lot unless you centre the web browser.

I think the 42" C2 is a better size than the 55" if you're going to use it on a desk. The 49" G9 and 55" TV may sound close in size on paper but the TV will dwarf it in reality and be too big for all but the biggest desks. I have my C2 maybe 70-80cm from my eyes and it's perfect for general gaming, films, web browsing, etc.

The G9 is slightly easier to run than 4K but not by much. It's something like 7.5 million pixels versus just over 8 million for 4K.

The sweet spot for being reasonable to run, a good size and aspect ratio for everything, reasonably priced, etc. is probably a 32" 1440p monitor. I was expecting it to look horrible with the same PPI as a 1080p panel but it was fine.

TL;DR: a 42" C2 if you're going to use it on a desk and the 55" if you're using it in a living room or similar setup. I'd only really consider the G9 if all you ever do on it is game, but I found myself wanting the extra height of my C2 back.

I'd honestly advise against a 55", I used a CX for couple years on my desk and while it was usable if I had my chair pretty far back with a controller it wasn't a great experience especially once up close with keyboard, I'm using a 43" QN90C right now, it's insanely bright compared to the CX and blacks aren't far off with minimal blooming, but more importantly it's lot easier to use on desk, but even still after saying that I've been thinking of changing to a good 32" monitor instead
