gaming monitors

If you're serious about gaming then 120Hz capability should be givien serious consideration when choosing a new monitor. In my opinion, for gaming at least, 1920*1080 isn't a terrific improvement over 1680*1050 - It could actually be argued that because it decreases your FPS (by making your GPU work harder), it is actually worse?? You can also usually add more of the graphical bells & whistles (AA, AF, lighting etc) when running at a lower res without too much of a hit to your FPS - whether you notice/appreciate it as much as on a higher res? No.

Remember, 120Hz is only really useful for gaming if you have a GPU(s) that can run your games at 60 FPS or more. There would be no point in buying a monitor that can display 120 FPS if your GPU can only produce 60 (I'm thinking Crysis and other demanding games). I don't know what games you play but it might be worth downloading Fraps (or similar) to check your FPS.

If you decide against 120Hz or it proves unnecessary/unattainable, you could do a lot worse than choosing one from the selection that cmndr_andi has provided in the first reply to this thread.
