Got an MBP in March, which is my first Mac - loving it and the trackpad for normal everyday use but I also like to do a bit of gaming, mostly World of Warcraft for which the trackpad will be inadequate. I have a Logitech G5 which is quite old now, but still works beautifully on my PC, but on the Mac it doesn't feel right - I find it really difficult getting the cursor to the right place on the screen quickly. I checked and it doesn't appear that there are any OSX specific drivers for this mouse from Logitech.

So anyone got any recommendations for a gaming mouse to use with a MBP? Although I don't do an awful lot of gaming these days I am a big fan of spending more on interface devices

Download a program called steer mouse, it costs about ~£12 and will sort the mouse out. I had the same issue with my MX Revolution and steer mouse made it all work. There's a free 30 day trial you can use to make sure you're happy with it first:

Cheers. As soon as I hit submit on this thread I noticed it mentioned in another thread - hmm. Will take a look ;)

Razer orochi looks like the ultimate gaming mouse for mac to me as it's also one of the very few bluetooth mice.

Be warned. The orochi effectively works at half-speed when in bluetooth mode, as compared to plugging it in using the USB, and is not really suitable for gaming. It does work, but its not nearly as good.

I have a razer imperator, and even using the mac drivers from razer it feels very sluggish compared to windows. I will give that program mentioned in this thread a look in.

Half speed would still be 2000dpi which is more than my MX518

You also have the choice of bluetooth for day to day stuff and plugging it in via usb for gaming if necessary. So still seems like the a very good choice for macs imo. Reviews seem to be very good as well.

There is also BetterTouchTool for programming the extra buttons as a simpler alternative to the above mentioned software.

I've got a Razer Orochi mouse and it works fantastically well - Bluetooth for general use and USB for gaming.

It's undoubtedly an expensive mouse, but worth it IMO.

Don't get me wrong, the missus has one and she and I think its excellent :) Just clarifying its best to plug in for gaming.

Only issue I have had with it is where i have tried to plug it in to a different computer while the laptop it is synced to is turned on. There is no way to 'turn off' the bluetooth ariel so plugging the USB into a different computer it seems to default to the bluetooth connection rather than the USB.

I get intermittent issues with all Bluetooth mice I have tried in my Macbook, lots of people have similar issues which seem to be caused by interference from the on-board WiFi.

There's a little switch on the bottom that turns off Bluetooth.
