I'm thinking of purchasing a gaming laptop,

I just have a couple of questions I'm sure someone will be able to answear me here.

1) I'm not worried about performance issues as I don't mind turning graphic settings down and I won't be playing any demanding games but, I assume I will have to buy a proper mouse but how are gaming laptop keyboards? Is it much worse then controlling your character on an actual pc with an actual keyboard?

2) If I get, say 1080 or 1050 on a 15/17in screen, will it look bad compared to 1080 on a 24in ?

Thanks for your help

Im a fan of 1050 on a laptop screen, just because i think they are too small for gaming on at 1080 however it is nice to have a 1080 for movies.

Keyboards are generaly fine. 17" laptops you will get a full keyboard and 15.4" you will get one with no numpad

As for gaming graphics if you get a laptop with a 5870 or a 480m then your going to playing everygame at pretty much full graphics and you can pic them up starting from £850 and they generaly include 4/6gb ram and an i5 with usualy between 320 to 500gb of hdd space.

as for the qulity of the picture, i find my laptop screen is actuly better than my 24" samsung screens, its much sharper than them. although you do suffer a bit with the viewing angle.

Thanks, that's fine. Im not one to splurge out on a monitor for it's viewing angles anyway :D

Exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I never use the numpad except at work so do you think a 15in would be fine?

A 15.6 laptop will give you a num pad which I have. Personally I don't notice the difference between my desktop keyboard and laptop keyboard when gaming.

Unless you want something that is ultraportable, forget about the m11x

Also I would not bother about the 600 eaither

The 2 to consider is the GX660 and and the GX740

Both are amazing laptops. The GX660 from here has the added benfit ot the higher ram. Do not consider the raid drives as an advantage in the GX660 as your probably going to want to replace them as they are crappy WD Blue Drives.

The GX740 I got came with a i5 460 and a 750gb HDD so better than the stock spec that is listed and I have upgraded it to 8gb of ram.

I also have a Alienware m15x. Tbh with you I dont notic the weight difference between them and its nice to have the larger screen.

One thing I will recommend to you though, gaming laptops are a lot heavier than standard run of the mill laptops so I would recommend you get yourself a laptop backpack rather than a standard shoulder bag. These come with a lot more padding in them to protect your investment and are a lot more confortable to carry.

Its pretty good. I can play bad company 2 on med to high settings and most other games on high settings such a medal of honor and MW2

1680x1050 on a 15" panel is fine for gaming, 1920x on a 17" is pushing it a bit but acceptable, anything less isn't great imo.

Definitely need an external mouse for any serious gaming, laptop keyboards are generally useable for gaming but if your playing fps games, etc. then depending on your key layout/style you will probably find a proper keyboard gives better results.

Picked it up for £1000 at the start of the year from Dell direct... dont ask me how I managed that but I did. I think their sales agent messed up.

14" 1368x768 Lenovo Y460.

i5 540M (So not a power hungry i7) and switch-able graphics. Great for some longevity on the go and power when your tethered to some AC.

The resolution and screen physical size is great. I was concerned it might be a little small compared to the 24" 1920 panel I am used to at home but yeah, no complaints. Runs like a dream also.

Fullsize keyboard (without Numpad) and a nice logitech notebook laser mouse. No different to gaming at home on my desktop really.
