Has anyone tried this? I'm building an extension and someone how I have managed to to agree with the wife the use of the spare room. I thought she would argue for somewhere for her hand bags and shoes but I managed to get her to agree for a Man Cave:)

I either get a 50-60 inch tv screen or I go for projector.

I do it all the time on both Ps4 and PC. First person shooters are a little sick inducing but bigger is always better.

Played BF4 & a recent racing game on a 120" screen projected onto a white sheet hanging on the wall when I first got my new projector.

Now it's 150" ceiling mounted pull down screen... but I haven't tried 150" gaming just yet.

For me, it is not a pleasurable experience for most games.

Superb for "party" games, bomberman etc and racing games.

For FPS though, the contstant eybeall scanning your peripheral makes it a tiring experience for me anyway.

I also detect a tiny amount of input lag (I assume to the image processing on the projector) and this puts me off for most "serious" games.

Personally, I would spend the money on a smaller yet more efficient monitor.

Projector for TV/Films, YES YES YES.

For gaming, meh, not so much, especially if a hardcore PC gamer.

Yes, when you get your first projector, everyone goes "YEAH GAMES"... then you go back to your monitor.

I play on a 90-110" image projecting on a whitish wall.
Agree with Gimpymoo for films its amazing.

For gaming, I would not recommend competitive MP gaming as you will be at a disadvantage as you cannot look into the peripheral areas as quickly. Otherwise for SP games I love the immersion. Would recommend surround sound as well to augment the size.
Use it for console gaming mainly as my PC is in another room but have plans for that.

Its great fun, I've had it for around 8 months now and can't imagine not having a projector, from me an easy recommendation. That is unless I could get a similarly sized TV for the same price!

However a projector is not a substitute for a TV. You will likely still need a TV for daylight use.

The more I read the more I get confused about projectors just too many types to choose from. Which projectors did you all get?

Between TV and Projector, I would go for the TV. (for gaming)
I already played for 1 week using a projector, it was fun, but you need to move your eyes and head all the time :p
Then I moved back to a 40inch tv and now I'm using 3x22inch monitors, probably I will move to 3x24inch monitors at some point, as I think more than 24 in a triple configuration is too much and will go back to the same problem as the projector, moving eyes and head :D

Epson TW9000W. Bought myn 2nd hand, no issues so far (fingers crossed)
There are a bewildering amount to choose from. Notable brands are Epson, Sony, JVC and Panasonic. I'm sure there are others too but these come to mind.

Input lag mentioned above is due to image processing on some projectors.

Certain ones (like mine) come with a "gaming mode" which reduces the input lag.

This one has been measured as 20ms in gaming mode... so it's quicker than most normal monitors!

I have the Sony HW40ES... image quality is awesome... there is something special about these SXRD chips... but it has me wishing for adjustable iris & 4K now... lol... perhaps when the prices drop under £5k (eek).

How much gaming are you thinking of doing?

If it's either a TV or a projector... and gaming is your primary focus... then go for a TV. If it's for a combo of gaming/movies/tv... then go projector.

Projector is not the best during daylight hours (although can be quite usable unless you're in direct sunlight)... unless you pretty much blackout the room.

Optoma and Benq have some very good value offerings

Can't say I'd game much on a projector - quite good for console games but not so much for PC games some exceptions aside. Mine is pretty low lag with 1-2 image processing options disabled <16ms dunno exactly what but I can tell once the delay gets much above 16ms. Personally I'm a fan of Optoma projectors.

Nothing beats a wall sized display for watching a movie though but as per what crinkleshoes said if primarily PC gaming then get a TV.

Bought a projector at new year as amazon had the one I wanted with £100 off. Best decision I ever made. Played 90+ hours of dragon age inquisition on the screen and loved every minute. Really like being able to sit through on my couch to play.

Also working my way through GTA V and it looks great.

I've recently bought a new PC, so the old one is going to be shifted through to the living room over the weekend to test. Think I might try Bioshock Infinite.

I use to do this a fair bit, only thing I'd say is that you need a proper screen/surface to project onto and there will be noticeable input lag. I did do this a good few years ago for a while though, always amusing playing MMOs on a 12x9ft screen in the living room :)

I do prefer my eyefinity setup over 3 24" monitors though, far less eye strain too but that's minimised with a proper screen and a decent room to use it in.

Unsure I still have some time to decide on what to do. I just know if I decide to go down the tv route I may regret getting a projector. In fact when we renovated the house I wanted a projector in the lounge but the wife wanted a center light and we could not have both. Guess what... we have the center light but we never turn it on as it is too bright! Still got my kickass surround system.

Ive done a bit, although it was an old projector (but it was free so no complaints). Its not perhaps as good for pc games, especially first person, but consoles work much better especially multiplayer split screening.

You'll want blackout curtains though. Probably the best way to think of it is like a big tv, excellent for films and TV and the odd bit of console gaming but not a patch on a proper decent monitor for pc gaming.

The one way you could solve this is have both, a single good monitor for fps and proper pc gaming, and a projector for tv, films and split screen gaming

Have a Acer H5360 3D Home Theater Projector @ Resolution:1280x720, had that a while,
I Now have just recently got the BenQ W1070+ @ Resolution: 1920 x 1080

The Acer used it to drive around islands on TDU2 very nice.
The Benq used it to play Movies etc.

TBH the resolution difference is much better on Benq.

in a couple off years, 4k projectors may be about and good prices :-)

PS the 3d on the Benq is very good :-)
