Hello everyone i would like to assemble my first computer. I would like to play in 1440p resolution and the motherboard must have wifi in it. My budget is around 2000. Here's what I tried to figure out, the rest of the amount will be allocated to the graphics card. Any suggestions and prompts are welcome.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,360.64 (includes shipping: £20.82)

Probably up it to 32GB RAM for this budget, need to make sure that the motherboard has the ability to flash BIOS without 3rd gen chip as it won't support the 5th gen out of the box.

Would probably go for a 2TB NVME too if it were me, I wouldn't bother with a HDD personally they're just so slow :)

Hi welcome

I would go with 32GB Ram, as it is better value overall. The Patriot kit linked above is £45 extra for double the amount.

I would go with the Arctic Freezer 34 esports as it is a bit cheaper and will perform just as well.

That Corsair 750D case is pretty dated. I would look at something like the Phanteks P400 Air for half the price. Also a mesh front will generally give you better airflow than a solid front panel.

This would only leave me 350 for gpu and I can not spend more than 2000 (I'm really stretching my budget) and is the 500GB Samsung SSD better/more value than 1T WD blue?

The WD SN550 is fine for a gaming pc. No need to spend extra on a Gen 4 SSD.

Would x570 motherboard make a difference for me? The Asus Rog strix b550 has the flash bios option.

You don't need X570. A B550 is perfectly fine.

You can game with a mechanical drive, the question is how fast the games will load. The Samsung drive has 7 GB/s read and 5 GB/s write speeds and is the cutting edge technology today.

This is like asking if you would notice difference between DDR4-2133 and DDR4-3600.

X570 has PCIe 4 on all slots, the B550 doesn't.

2000 is a very high budget, so if I were you, I'd spend on more quality parts.

There are GTX 1080 Ti for 300-350, second hand.

  • That case is really expensive, go for a Lian Li Mesh 2 or Corsair 4000D Airflow - they're both under £80.
  • CPU is overpriced on this site, stock is coming in at a competitor and they'll probably be closer to £420.
  • B550 is fine as long as you can bench flash the bios.
  • You definitely don't need a Gen4 SSD, you can get a high-end 1TB for £120 on another site.
  • PSU is also overpriced, a competitor is getting in some Seasonic units soon and they'll be closer to £130.
The cost difference will go a long way to get the best GPU possible.

Yes, I agree - the system is very unbalanced - more budget is shifted towards parts that have zero relation to the gaming performance.

Also, 16 GB of RAM and a 6-core CPU means that next year the guy will come to ask more upgrade advices.

There won't be any difference in load times between pcie 3.0 and pcie 4.0. That might change once Direct Storage becomes a common thing. A Gen 4 SSD can be added at a later date so not really an issue.

Why would you need pcie 4.0 on all slots ? You still get pcie 4.0 for the gpu and top M.2 slot on B550.

If later a second M.2 PCIe 4 SSD is added, it won't work at its rated throughputs.

I'd argue if its a pure gaming PC, why spend the extra for the 5800 when the 5600 should do just fine? Allocate that money towards a newer gen graphics card instead that will last a few years. Gen 4 SSD is also not needed as lee is saying, get a 1TB gen 3 m.2 ssd instead in the 120 price bracket, although you may need to wait for a good offer.

Agree on the case, get something with better airflow at under 100 quid, there are plenty of good options.

It's a gaming pc. No need for 2 x pcie 4.0 ssd's.

Games are pretty large these days - one can be 100 GB, the future ones will be even more demanding for space.

It's about future-proofing - don't underestimate the future technologies just because people are not used to them yet.

The op can decide how much storage he needs. Not everyone wants to install 10+ games at a time. He has a 4TB HDD for mass storage.

So this is what I have in basket:

I'm not sure if this cpu would be good enough or invest in 8 cores. Is this power supply any good? Depends on which cpu I will go, I have 500-600 left for gpu. Which one should I choose? And is it worth to wait and buy something older, maybe second hand, and in couple months time buy a new gpu when there gonna be more in stock with normal-ish prize or just buy whenever I would have occasion?

That setup looks spot on with the 5600X, 100% agree on dodging the Ryzen 7.

Only thing I'd recommend is checking the QVL (Qualified Vendors List) for you memory and motherboard, it's a right pain to get them matched at the moment with DOCP(XMP).
