Gaming PC - £800 - BF3

Jesus, did not get much right !- too much click and pasting. arghh.

Will look at other case, shame. Considering I am a build novice will the CM storm case listed be better/worse than Z9 (should I wait /get elsewhere).

Why ASROCK card is an improvement over the Gigabyte Z77-D3H / Z77X-D3H ?. Also I note alt memory, just price driven ?.

Cheers.

Yes shame the Z9 is out of stock but at the price it was im not surprised. Case is very much personal preference. I used this case as it had a side window, USB3, decent cooling and looks nice imo.....you can choose an alternative. (Cheaper cases usually have less fans/worse cooling the Z9 being an exception)

The Geil RAM is on offer so yes some of it is price driven. The GB mobos are blue and i think would look naff in the case as it has red and the side window will let you see inside.

The Asrock mobo has THX rated onboard audio (thats good), it will overclock better than the entry level GB mobos (Z77-DS3H/D3H) as they only use 4 pin power on the aux power the Asrock uses all 8 pins. It also does SLI/Xfire properly (not that you want it). It also looks nice and the Geil RAM suits it well too. With the heatsink again I have tried to try into the mobo colour scheme (black and gold). It's a good cooler for the price, hopefully you can see I haven't gone made with your money but tried to keep it styled well too :)

As you weren't bothered about SLI I have just used a 600W PSU. It's modular, is very quiet and has ample power for a single GPU setup :)

Thanks as ever, really good advice.
With the CM case, on the basis that (for some time at least) I will not be overclocking do you think it comes with sufficient fans - or would you suggest getting some more.

Will be more or less there when case decided on, without wasting your time if I was to go for something like the Corsair 500R (much dearer I know) - would I see much benefit in real terms over Z9/CM?.

Again, thanks for taking the time.

Any thoughts on "With the CM case, on the basis that (for some time at least) I will not be overclocking do you think it comes with sufficient fans - or would you suggest getting some more.

You will want to overclock, you don't have to do it straight away. If you are new to building we can help you through the basics first, then overtime you can tweak your kit to get more from it.

YOUR BASKET
1 x NZXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast Midi Tower Case - White £84.98
1 x Fractal Design Define R3 Midi Tower Case - Silver Arrow £69.98
1 x CM Storm Enforcer Gaming Case - Black £69.98
1 x Corsair Carbide 300R Mid Tower Case - Black £59.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - Black £44.99
Total : £329.93 (includes shipping : FREE).

The case is very much down to you. I pointed out the Bitfenix shinobi as that's not bad for the price. Bitfenix do make some nice quality kit, you can get the "core" shinobi and add the fans and extras you want. I'm lucky and being sent this fan controller and 2 fans for review by them. It allows independant control of the fans and can turn on/off the LEDs on their spectre fans. They also sell all manner of badges and trim etc in different colours.

I used the CM scout as it had a 200mm front intake (that will shift some air) and a 120mm exhaust. You could add another 200mm fan at the top, or 120mm on the side if you wanted to. The window is a nice addition, it has USB3 over the Z9 case, if it's not your style then i've pointed at some good reasonably priced cases. The Fractal R3 has sound proofing as a perk, the NZXT case is funky, it reminds me of starwars so I instantly love it lol AS you can see you can have a lot of fun with the style of your custom pc :)

Thanks again, I do like the features of the CM - but not sure about the style (the mrs will I am sure turn her nose up !)...under the thumb mate.

Like look of Corsair and Shinobi, but cooling and ease of assembly are king - so it sound like CM is best of the bunch ?.....Divorce it is then :-/

Am also lazy so would rather have fans fitted than hassle of adding more.

Interesting, have thought about SSD, budget was too tight for now - but sacrifice windForce version of GTX670?. From what i have seen it seemed to be best of 670's to go for. Some thinking to do! What would you do?

I couldnt personally stomach paying £300 for a GPU most I could see myself pushing to would be this. Only as it's a good price for the card and yes I would try and get a SSD in that budget of £900 you are now toying with.

How you balance the budget is really down to you buddy. If you've never built a PC before I suggest you do some light homework. There are video walkthroughs on youtube to help you, we are here to help you through it too of course. It's not difficult it just helps to take your time and be methodical and read the manuals lol

Top man, much appreciated. Will come to a decision - and have been reading up. Newegg youtube videos seemed helpfull.

Choices to make.

Cheers

Have at last placed my order (as follows) - will update all on how it works out next week.

Ashamed to say have cheated and am having it supplied constructed (no way with current schedule I could give construction care and attention it would need). Happy with all though.

Planning a 2nd PC a for colleague next month, and I will build that one.

Just basics of putting on Windows and drivers, surely even an idiot like me can't get that wrong ?. Any pointers (links better) to order of doing this ?.

Thanks all for help in getting to product mix - great community, will aim to give something back when I can add value.

Cheers alls.

Coward........ Just kidding fella ;)

That "core" case has no fans in it bud. The idea is that you add what you want to the chassis.

Atleast 1 120mm fan for an exhaust would make sense. As it's windowed you might want an LED fan perhaps? (click me)

Your quite right mate.....so keen to get machine after all the talk, and now boring life stuff has come up meaning just no time for build...Half the man you are mate!!!....lol.

I did check fans with O/C, they advised the following:
"Front Cooling: 2 x 120mm Fans (optional) 1 x 120mm Fan (included)
Rear Cooling: 1 x 120mm Fan (included) or 1 x 92mm Fan (optional)
Top Cooling: 2 x 140mm Fans (optional) or 2 x 120mm Fans (optional)".

So this is not true?

What would you suggest I should go with - consider no overclocking for some time. Can be man enough to add these myself.lol/

Thanks for all help mate.

Is this the case you ordered?

Look at the spec sheet in that link and show me where it says fans included. I'm confused as to wether you are being told it comes with a fan or wether they are suggesting a 120mm fan be added for an intake :/

I did link a bitfenix white LED fan in my previous post. You can use a different colour 120mm fan or lose the LED completely. Adding a fan is simple enough, 4 screws to hold it to the case and you simply plug the fan into the mobos fan header pins

I agree, there is confusion. Thats why I asked O/C the question regarding enough cooling. I think I will drop them a line !!!. And change things if need be.

Sorry missed link...if short fans will sort one way or another.

Tks again.

You're welcome bud. You don't have to use the bitfenix fans (nice to keep the theme going though) but atleast one 120mm fan in the case would be wise.

I'm lucky and Bitfenix are sending me a Hydra pro fan controller and 2 140mm spectre pro fans for review. Now i'm not suggesting you buy the fan controller now but it's capable of turning the LEDs on and off on the spectre fans....soemthing to consider maybe as a later upgrade

Will have at least 2 fitted, will ensure O/C honour their message.....

HONOSUSERI - have looked a review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAoGvA8wJv4 and it does show it coming with 2 fans fitted.
Will let you know when this is confirmed by O/C for future ref.

I think you'll find you ordered this one. It has the rear exhaust 120mm fan as OCuk said you would get.

In your post above you listed
